While some residents continue to reside there today (mainly retirees), most people who live here are descendants of those who came before them – including men like George Moulton who cooked for General Grant during his visits to Battle Mountain National Monument; John Stroud who platted the town site; Wm. Dabney Longacre who drilled for oil under Boulder Creek; etc.? The current downtown area was laid out by architect Frederick Law Olmsted in 1892 as part of a grand plan that included creating an idealized image of American society as portrayed by him in his book Rules for Living? Downtown streets were also named after prominent individuals or hometowns across America: Fifth Avenue ran east/west through Boise while Market Street ran north/south through Pocatello? Downtown businesses have long been popular with tourists but have started to experience difficulty meeting demand due to dwindling economic growth rates throughout much of central Idaho? In recent years some restaurant owners have opened up satellite locations throughout central Idaho providing more choices for customers without sacrificing quality Standards & practices?? In 1984 Ada County Sheriff Clarence King organized a group called Citizens Patrol which helped keep order during riots that took place following the death of local sheriff Roy Speer.? During this time many buildings such as City Hall became makeshift jails where inmates were held until trial ?? After Roy Speer's death law enforcement officials decided not to pursue any charges against anyone ??? Today it can still be seen from Lamar Boulevard which runs between 5th avenue and Broadway street ?? everyday around 7pm someone will come out front and ask you your business
In 1868, the first white person to set foot on what is now Idaho Falls was a man named James H. Simpson. He and his family traveled overland from Oregon and built a cabin on the north bank of the falls. The following year, they moved to the site of their current cabin, which they had prepared by demolishing an old adobe building in town. In 1870, Explorer Ferdinand Magellan discovered and named the falls after himself when he explored the area in search of America's Northwest Passage.
