By 1942, there were only a handful of people remaining in Idaho Falls - all working for mining companies headquartered elsewhere in Great Britain or Canada. However, during World War II there suddenly became an influx of refugees who had fled Nazi Germany; over 100 families moved into town between 1939-1945. Many factories closed during wartime due to limited resources; however, idahofalls mills managed to stay open despite some disruption from lack of raw materials and competition from other Northwest mills such as Quincy Mills which were just starting up themselves at that time . In 1955-1957 when Interstate 8 opened through much of western US - including parts of central ID - much attention turned toIdaho Falls because it lay right on I-8! With so many people coming through town for work or school visits, businesses saw an opportunity to capitalize on this new development by starting up their own stores/cafés/restaurants etc.; unfortunately for idahofalls merchantsegregation began already before I-8 ever made its way into full swing! As more black Americans move into American cities during this period (due largely to rising rates associated with racism), they start opening small businesses outside white neighborhoods too; but business owners here still face segregationism which persists today as African American residents continue making up a large percentage (on average)of all shopownership
The first Europeans to come to the area were French fur traders in the late 18th century. The area was known as the "Great Salt Lake" because of its high level of saltpeter and other minerals. In 1864, when the U.S. state of Idaho was organized, this land became part of it and was named for the falls on the Snake River that formed near Boise City. The first post office in what is now Idaho Falls opened in 1865, and early residents used the falls for their water supply. By 1889, however, a dam had been built upstream and power had become necessary to create a canal through which goods could be transported from Boise City to market. The falls were also used for military purposes during World War I; troops marched upriver to use them as a source of water while they fought in Europe.
