Early guns were mostly muzzleloaders and shotguns. The first gunsmith in Garden City was Mr. George Withers who opened his business in 1892. By 1906, there were more than 20 gunsmiths in the community. In 1928, Gunnery Sergeant John J. Goggin developed a system to fire high-power rifle rounds through a target without having to remove it from its stand or use any other special equipment. This system became known as "Goggin's". Today, Garden City is home to many shooting enthusiasts who participate in various events throughout the year including matches, skeet tournaments and IDPA shoots.

In recent years, however, tourism has declined as development has taken over much of the area's rural character. However, there are still some signs of traditional agriculture in the local landscape: several miles west of town is a small agricultural village known as Cadron; and about three miles north of town is another small village called Wetmore which also contains a grocery store and several residences).

However, over time Garden City has become less popular due to increasing competition from other nearby towns with similar histories such as Boise and Nampa. Today, Garden City is still a popular tourist destination with visitors coming from all over North America including Europe and Asia
On May 25, 1907, Garden City was established as a town in Butte County, Idaho. The town was named after the garden city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Garden City had a population of only 100 residents when it was founded and it grew slowly until World War II when it exploded with growth. The population peaked at over 1,500 in 1950 and declined slowly until the late 1990s when it started to rebound again due to the influx of new people from surrounding towns. The current population is around 350 people and Gardens City is considered an expansion community for Butte County.
