After World War II ended, GardenCity experienced rapid growth as newly arrived post-war immigrants began arriving; this led to an increase in housing prices which contributed to a decline in median household income between 1950 and 1980. However, recent economic growth has seen increased job opportunities (including several expansions at The Boeing Company) as well as new development including a shopping complex called "The mall". Hodges, who also built the first schoolhouse and courthouse in that community. Garden City rapidly grew and became an important agricultural center during the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1907, it annexed part of neighboring Haydenville, making it one of the most populous communities within its boundaries today. That year saw also significant advances in communication and transportation within Garden City- both through telephone lines and improved roads- which helped make it one of America's leading commercial towns during this period. Despite these positive developments, however, World War I caused much hardship for Garden City residents due to military deployments throughout Central Asia and Europe; as well as shortages of food and other supplies brought on by trench warfare. Despite this adversity, however, many people continued to live and work in Garden City during those years; particularly because there were few alternatives available outside the town itself for evening activities or shopping opportunities beyond local shops or farmers' markets%. During World War II (1939-1945), garden city experienced even more dramatic changes as thousands of American soldiers arrived at its borders from all over America to serve in combat roles; some residents decided to stay behind instead of returning home once hostilities ended; while others chose to leave again after suffering extensive damage from bombing raids or fighting on land they did not own.. Many casualties occurred within Garden City itself as a result of these events; including multiple deaths from firebombing raids that destroyed entire neighborhoods near downtown along with numerous injuries sustained during combat operations.. Overall, however, despite these challenges – both recent and long past - garden city has remained an important community unto itself since its founding nearly 150 years ago..
