The town was founded in 1903 by citizens who were looking for a new home after moving away from their previous location in Hayden County, Utah. The first store was built in 1905 and the first school opened in 1907. The population grew rapidly during World War I because many people moved to work in the war effort; however, after the war ended, there was little growth until the early 1970s when energy production began to increase and industry took over most aspects of local life. During the late 1990s and 2000s, Chubbuck experienced significant economic decline due to several factors including declines in oil production and2001 floods which destroyed many homes, businesses and roads within the community. However, since 2007 through2009 there has been some renewed growth as chinese investment has increased into local businesses resulting in more jobs for locals as well as an increase in sales tax revenue which helps finance government services such as education and health care that benefit residents

Chubbuck, Idaho is a small town in the United States located on the Snake River. The population was 2,057 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise-based County of Ada. The town was founded in 1881 by J.B. Chubb and named for him after his ranch at Chubb Creek in Nevada. In 1902, local rancher Fenton Clements donated land to build what would become Chubbuck Elementary School and High School. The first school building was erected in 1908 and served as both a primary and secondary school until it burned down in 1954. In 1951, Chubbuck became home to the University of Utah's Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) which functioned as an agricultural research center until it moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1987. Chubbuck has had a number of notable residents including Will Rogers who lived here from 1907-1928 and wrote about his experiences here; Jack Dempsey who boxed here from 1923-1945; Rex Stout whose novel "The Great Gatsby" was set here; and Donny Deutsch who played guitar for Yes! during their early days as a rock band
Chubbuck is located in the Snake River Valley of Idaho and was first settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847. The town was named for David Chubb, a fur trader who visited the area in 1848. The town was founded on the site of an old Canadian post office which was abandoned in 1849. In 1861, Chubbuck became the county seat of Butte County, Idaho.
