Chubbuck is a small town in Idaho, located on the eastern slope of the Sawtooth Mountains. It is bordered by Nevada to the north and east, Oregon to the south and west, and California to the southeast. The population was 524 at the 2000 census. The Sawtooth Mountains are a range that runs from Chubbuck to Boise City in south-central Idaho. They are named after General James Gifford Scott who fought at Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. The Sawtooth National Forest surrounds Chubbuck and is home to many scenic peaks including Mount Rushmore, Silverthorne Peak, North Peak and South Peak. The land that now makes up Chubbuck was first inhabited by Native Americans such as the Cheyenne, Arapaho and Sioux. The area was later explored by parties of Spanish explorers in 1795-97 under Captain José de San Miguel y Costilla. In 1847 Mormon settlers arrived in what is now Chubbuck from Utah via Lewiston but they did not establish an permanent settlement until 1850 when George Custer discovered gold near present-day Boise City. A post office called "Chubbuck" was established in 1872, but it never became very successful and closed its doors permanently in 1902. The community name originated with a deed given by John Dickey to Jno Hodge for land northeast of town which would eventually become part of today's city block known as Post Office Park (also known as "Dickey's Gulch"). The first store opened on Main Street (now US Highway 127) within what is now Post Office Park around 1870s although there were several stores before that including one operated by Ewing & Company which opened about 1880 on Broadway across from what is now stadium Parking lot #2B). By 1890 there were 11 businesses operating in town with 2 grocery stores (Gleason Bros., Lamberts), 3 sawmills (Burke & Smith), 1 blacksmith shop (Jno Hodge), 1 druggist (Fenton Bros.), 1ivery stable (O'Malley Bros.) as well as several residential buildings including Anson Harvey House built about 1889 along Broadway/Post Office Rd., Mrs Mudd House built about 1895 on Third Street between Broadway/Post Office Rd./Highway 12&US Highway 20 &Mrs Bowers House erected about 1895 on Fourth Street just east of Theater Road also known as Riverside Drive today (& latterly Vandenberg Place)). In 1902 when most small towns were consolidated into larger ones due to new legislation enacted during the administration of Grover Cleveland those remaining here petitioned for city status however this petition was denied because Boise City had already received cityhood from Washington County two years earlier through incorporation process while Chubbuck only applied for village status! It wasn't until 1924 when an act passed Congress authorized creation of a national forest within Polk County adjacent to then Sawtooth National Forest creating much needed resources for both forests! This led directly to establishment of trails within both forests becoming popular tourist attractions throughout Eastern Idaho!! Today much remains unchanged other than increasing population density making outdoor activity more difficult so visitors are urged not try hiking or biking thru these preserves!!! Although some efforts have been made over recent years involving community involvement thru cultural dances etc.......thepython club has done an excellent job highlighting local history every year during their rodeo event......still another issue facing locals currently is water availability

The town's history can be traced back to 1887 when a group of Idaho pioneers arrived in what is now southeastern Idaho looking for new land to settle. They founded what would eventually become Chubbuck on July 4th, 1887. At first, the town consisted only of a fewesteads and wagon trains came through daily bringing goods and people to trade with the local Native Americans. In due time, other businesses began to open up in Chubbuck too; such as stores, hotels and restaurants. By 1921, Chubbucks had become an important commercial center in south-central Idaho and it boasted two banks (the First National Bank & Trust Company and The Farmers State Bank) as well as six grocery stores, four post office buildings (one original built in 1915), three movie theaters (two Regal cinemas), seven churches (including one from 1898 that still remains active), nine schools (six primary schools plus two technical schools) and twelve residences. Today, residents are actively involved in their community through various ways including its many civic organizations such as its Chamber Of Commerce which provides marketing assistance for local businesses; its Parks And Recreation Department which oversees public transportation within the community; its volunteer fire department which responds to emergencies within the community; its numerous charitable organizations including those focused on socio-economic justice such as Food Pantry; and its annual Oktoberfest celebration which features live music performances by area bands throughout October.
Chubbuck is located in the Boise metropolitan area and was founded in 1907. The town originally consisted of just a few homes and a post office. In the 1940s, Chubbuck experienced growth when it became the home to the Idaho Air National Guard Base.
