The BLS system allowed guns to be produced much faster than earlier designs, which helped contribute to American victory in the Mexican-American War (1846-48). The popularity of shotguns soon led to development of rifle designs using this new technology. One such design was called the repeating rifle, which became popular during World War I due to its firepower and accuracy potential. Chubbuck is a small town in the Sawtooth National Forest in southeastern Idaho. It was founded in 1885 by developer and miller George H. Chubb, who named it after his father, Cyrus Chubb. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century as settlers arrived from all over the United States to process timber near its sawmill. By 1910, Chubbuck had a population of 1,000 and was considered one of the most important towns in southeastern Idaho. However, during World War I Chubbuck saw heavy use as an airfield for the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) and experienced significant damage from bombing raids. In the postwar years, Chubbuck slowly lost its importance as a commercial center until it became an agricultural community in the early 21st century.
