Boise City is a city in south Boise County, Idaho, United States. The population was 33,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Boise County. In 2001, Boise City was named one of "The Top 10 Most Literate Cities" in the United States by Forbes magazine. The city also has been ranked as one of the fastest-growing cities in America by Forbes and Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazines. Boise City was founded on December 15, 1907 as a small mining town called Garden Valley by John Pritchett and his family. The first post office opened in 1909 and the name changed to Boise on November 12, 1912 due to confusion with neighboring garden valley. The city became an incorporated municipality on May 18, 1916 when it merged with nearby oral Roberts Township to form the present-day city of Boise. During World War II, Boise City served as both a major manufacturing center for munitions during production at its munitions plants located throughout nearby rural areas and also provided vital services such as housing construction for military personnel and their families while they were stationed overseas. After the war ended in 1945, many of those same industries began to decline as technology replaced them; however, Boise City has continued to grow through several waves of development that have brought new businesses and residents into its downtown area since then – most notably through Amazon’s acquisition of Lehi’s former ammunition plant in 2009 which led to an increase in job opportunities for local citizens within minutes outside the downtown core itself! Today, Downtown Boise is home to more than 50 restaurants (including some international chains) along with two dozen retail stores including department stores Macy’s and Sears plus numerous smaller boutiques and gift shops; four professional sports teams (NFL: Broncos/Chiefs/Lions/Dolphins), three large movie theaters – Regal Cinemas IMAX & AMC Landmark Stadium 21 near Lemmon Avenue east of Court Square where IMAX screenings are also held regularly; six Sanyo TV sets inside each theater showing high definition programming from around the world; over 100 public square feet (10 m²) available for use as public space perpetually awash with green lawn turf or any number of other creative solutions concocted by civic leaders during Mayor Zenziger’s tenure; more than $1 million worth of renovations funded annually just within blocks northeastward from Downtown across First Street between North Capitol Hill Boulevard Widening Highway 1A & Interstate 20 & South Broadway Avenue totaling nearly 350 individual project updates since January 2006 thru September 2011 inclusive Boise City celebrated its 125th Anniversary this year!Throughout 2016 we will be hosting block party events celebrating our history like 4K movies nights every 2nd Saturday from 6pm till 10pm at Regal Cinemas IMAX & AMC Landmark Stadium 21 followed by live music every night starting at 9pm until dawn unless otherwise noted
