These included models such as the Model 1895/96R sniper rifle scope which could be used with both handguns and rifles. In 1927, Winchester Repeating Arms Company merged with Leupold & Sons Ltd., creating what is now Leupold & Sons Incorporated (L&S). This company sold both hunting optics and firearms products throughout Idaho and Wyoming; however, their main focus was on optics sales within those states. Blackfoot is a town in Butte County, Idaho, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise metropolitan area. Blackfoot was founded by white settlers in 1881 as the Town of Blackfoot. In 1907, the name was changed to Blackfoot to avoid confusion with nearby Blackfeet City. The present day name comes from Chief "Blackfoot" Nez Perce's request for an alteration of his name in a treaty with the United States during the late 19th century. In 1886, when Gold Rush fever swept through Oregon and Washington states and towns were established as mining communities, small black foot settlements were started near Grants Pass in central Oregon and Chehalis River on the Snake River Plain in western Washington state. These pioneers – men who had migrated from eastern Kentucky and Tennessee – had brought their herds of horses and cattle back with them from these new regions of America where stockyards now filled up with animals from all over Europe and Asia. They named their new places after themselves or locales within easy marching distance: Deschutes (near Grants Pass), Clearwater (southwest of Olympia), Salmon Falls (northwest of Seattle), etc., until finally they arrived at what would become Blackfoot on November 12, 1881Pushed by gold prospectors seeking Denver’s rich mines that lay just east of Fort Collins on Clearwater Creek below Slough Mountain range they found land suitable for farming only 3 miles north-northeast of present-day Blacksburg
On December 15, 1875, the first white men set foot on what is now Blackfoot, Idaho. Hired by the government as guides and scouts for a military expedition led by General John C. Frémont, they traveled through what is now Wyoming and Montana in search of new land to claim for the United States. The first European settlement in present-day Blackfoot was made on October 7, 1876 by three men from Illinois: George Stephenson, James Mclntyre and Daniel Dixon. A failed effort to negotiate land with the local Native American tribe resulted in the two men being hanged from a tree outside of town square. The town's name comes from Chief Blackfoot's words "y'all bores go out all night" (meaning "you people come here during the day"), which means "this place is good for white people only."
