Amon, ID is a small town in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. Ammon is located on the Snake River and its namesake river, which forms part of the border between Wyoming and Utah. The first permanent settler in Ammon was John Wesley Powell in 1868. In 1904, the USGS built a station here to help survey for oil due to its natural gas reserves that were later discovered in nearby Geyser County. The town started as a trading post along the Snake River with general store, hotel, and school built in 1910-1911. Starting around 1920s local farmers began growing potatoes, corn, hay, apples, and other crops near what is now downtown Ammon while also raising livestock such as horses and cows. By 1940 only 55 people lived here; by 1990 this had increased to 350 residents before declining again starting around 2000 due to dwindling resources and increasing competition from other towns in the area. In 1984–1985 United States Army Corps of Engineers constructed an intake canal for mining operations at Butte Creek within easy reach of downtown Ammon which led to rapid growth of housing development instead of farming or manufacturing jobs that would have been available if there wasn’t anymining going on nearby like it did when Placer County became a mining district 3 years earlier

Ammon, Idaho is a town in Clark County, Idaho, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Ammon is located on the Snake River and is part of the Boise metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Ammon were groups of fur traders from Canada in 1807. They named the river for General James K. Polk who had been killed in a battle near that location six years earlier. The commercial interest in this area waned after railroad construction began through central Idaho in the 1870s and until around 1900 when nearby Nampa became an important regional center for lumber and other mills because of its access to the Snake River flood plain. In 1907, local ranchers started raising sheep on their properties east of town and by 1912 they had built a one-story school building which served as their county courthouse until it burned down in 1951. In 1913, developer George Waddell laid out 160 acres (61 ha) around what is now downtown Ammon with plans to create a new town centering on his proposed Interurban Railway connecting Boise with Des Moines, Iowa via Ammon. However, due to financial difficulties Waddell sold all his land except for about 10 acres (4 ha) northeast of downtown to Orchard Road Associates Ltd., headed by Jens Solling who planned to build a large shopping mall thereon called "The Orchard." On July 5, 1915, Solling completed purchase of about 248 acres (117 ha), including much of what would become downtown Ammon today including both the main street and original courthouse buildings which still stand today despite being extensively vandalized over time; however only about 15% of Solling's acreage actually remained available for development as developers quickly abandoned their projects throughout most of Central Idaho during World War II because they could not find buyers for their properties following hostilities ended). Downtown Ammon officially became "Ammon" on July 1, 1942 when The Oregon Journal published an article announcing that construction had commenced on Whatcom County's first school—ambitious plan sponsored by Govt.'s Educational Development Administration head Harry Truman prior to his election as president two years earlier—and that plans were underway for an airport within city limits serving as western terminus for UPNL's new airport project also known as "The Pearl." By 1945 almost all structures associated with Downtown Amman—the old bank building remaining standing since before World War II; court house; high school; municipal hall/library—had been destroyed or replaced by government housing developments such as Forest Glen Estates and Park Meadows while most businesses either closed or converted into military hospital facilities such as Marine Corps Air Station Lewis Field between 1945-1947 or into general stores like Elmer Gantry Stores across I–5 during 1949-1951 just prior to opening day at The Pearl which served various purposes including retail storefronts until 1977 when it was closedtered due largely to increased competition from larger stores adjacent Interstate 95 south side).
