Ammon, Idaho is a small town located in the Sawtooth Mountains of east-central Idaho. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. Ammon is part of the Boise metropolitan area. The community sits on a tract of land that has been inhabited for over 2,000 years. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ammon were fur traders working from the Oregon Trail. They named their new settlement after a nearby peak, Mount Helicon (now known as Eagle Peak). After a few years, they moved out because of Indian attacks and lack of food supplies. In 1868, miners discovered gold near Ammon and soon started mining for it. Mining operations continued until 1895 when production stopped because of health hazards caused by lead and silver mining practices. In 1907, lumber companies began logging in the Sawtooth National Forest and created sawmills along Lolo Creek which led to the name “Lumber City” being given to Ammon. Through its history, Ammon has been an important center for education and commerce in eastern Idaho. In 1906–07, local school districts merged to form one statewide system; this system still exists today asIdaho School Districts! In 1935, President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9981 ordering all Pacific Northwest forests be burned so that fuel could be used for World War II munitions production; this order destroyed much forest but also saved many homes and businesses in what is now Boise City!

Ammon is an unincorporated community in eastern Boise County, Idaho, United States. The post office at Ammon was established in 1892, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1965. Ammon has a population of about 175 people. The first permanent settler in what is now Ammon was A.W. Ketchum, who arrived there on December 15, 1885. He built the first house on the site that would become the town of Ammon. Ketchum named his new settlement after his home state of Maine and its capital city, Portland. The town of Ammon grew quickly from this initial population of just 10 residents to more than 200 by 1912 when a railroad was constructed running through the area linking Boise with Cache Valley and other points north. In 1915, a second railroad connection came to town when the Great Northern Railway extended its line from Ada to serve Ammon; this allowed for larger businesses and more residents to settle into what had been an agricultural community only 8 miles distant from downtown Boise! Today, much of what once constituted downtown Ammon has been replaced by modern commercial buildings – including two large shopping malls – while most remaining residential areas have seen significant renovation or conversion over the past few decades into mixed-use neighborhoods with plenty of pocket parks and green space forResidents as well as visitors!
The first settler in Ammon was George Washington in 1847. The town was founded on the east bank of the Snake River, about one mile from the present-day city of Boise.
