Ammon, Idaho (population: 3,868) is a small town located in the Boise metropolitan area. The population of Ammon was estimated to be 4,047 as of 2010. Ammon is the county seat for Ada County. The population of Ammon and its surrounding towns were founded by French settlers in 1875. After years of growth, the town reached its current size in 1959 when it merged with adjacent Ada County. The name "Ammon" comes from the nearby Arron Hills Formation which is thought to have been deposited during the Jurassic period about 150 million years ago. The formation is also known for containing fossils of dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus and Taimatophis. Today, parts of the Arron Hills are used for agriculture and housing while other portions are open to nature because they support cattle ranching, hunting, and logging operations. From an agricultural standpoint, Ammon has been a mainstay since it began commercial farming in 1876 when Ewing & Boggs planted wheat on 160 acres (71 hectares). By 1911, livestock had become one of the primary crops grown with hay and corn also being raised at times during that decade. In 1916-17, potatoes were also grown but this operation was discontinued due to lack of cold weather tolerance; instead potatoes were picked fresh every day until 1948 when frozen storage became available due to improved technology! In 1951-2 a sawmill was built yielding lumber until it closed in 1977 due to environmental concerns over emissions from the mill; however many local residents still today use lumber from that mill to build homes! A power plant was started up in 1954 using steam turbines brought over from Britain but this venture failed due largely to high costs associated with new technology! Today's economy revolves around various services provided by businesses including manufacturing (+4% year-on-year growth in 2009), retail (+3%), health care (+1%,2009), transportation (+1%), and government (-0%). Although primarily rural based since 1959 when it merged with Ada County, there has been recent development in some areas such as Commerce City which lies just outside town limits on State Highway 208. There are now several shopping malls statewide including one within walking distance of downtown Boise which offers great selection both online and off!

The economy began to decline again during World War II, although Ammon did not participate in the war effort. Since then, Ammon has experienced steady growth throughout both economic eras. In recent years, however, there have been several incidents that have disrupted its progress: most recently, the closure of its main shopping mall in 2016 due to budget cuts; and a string of wildfires that burned across central Idaho in 2018 and 2019.
Ammon is a town in Clark County, Idaho, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise metropolitan area.
