Some examples include being one of the few cities that has not experienced any major Hurricane Floyd damage since 1999; hosting The Grammy Awards each year; and being home to The Pearl Harbour centennial museum which tells all about Hawai'ian culture and history from ancient times until 1945 when it was bombed by Japan

The first binoculars were invented in 1814 by a group of Frenchmen who named them "Lunettes de Paris." The Japanese developed binoculars about 1830. In 1868, an American inventor, Samuel Morse, created the first practical telephoto lens for use with cameras. By 1880, Binoculars had become widely used throughout the world.
In 1898, the United States annexed Hawaii as part of the Treaty of Paris following its victory in the war with Japan. The annexation was controversial because many Hawaiians were not consulted about it and had little say in the matter. Afterward, there was no mention of Hawaii within American foreign policy or national identity. The islands that make up Honolulu were first settled by Polynesian people in the late 11th century. For centuries they managed their land using customary law and agriculture rather than a formal legal system. In 1845, King Kamehameha I built his own capital on Molokai after moving his seat from Lahaina to Kaipaʻolei. He also ordered construction of a new fortification on Oʻahu to defend against attacks by French warships during their visit to Honolulu in 1848. Although they were not under Hawaiian rule at the time, Tongan settlers began arriving insignificant numbers on Kauaʻi and Niʻihau around this time and soon started to form villages near what is now downtown Honolulu. By 1850, Tongan villagers had moved into all but one area of downtown Honolulu. In 1864, Captain James Cook visited Hawai‘i for the first time and noted that he found “the Sandwich Islands” (Hawaii) surrounded by “a chain of very high mountains” which he regards as “most extraordinary” because they do not seem to be connected by any mountain range anywhere else on Earth.—[1] This view may have been inspired by an account from Dutch explorer Jan Mayen who visited Hawai‘i in 1613–1614 where he compared Kaua’i and Niʻihau to Java ( Indonesia ).[2] On December 12, 1893, when king Kalākaua died without leaving children behind—the traditional succession process for Hawaiian kings—the legislature passed a bill creating an interim government known as the Provisional Government of Hawaii with powers until a new monarch could be elected or appointed according to traditional protocols. The new government lasted only until January 14, 1895 when President Grover Cleveland announced that he would recognize Japan's annexation of Korea without consulting either the Hawaiian or U.S. governments.—[3] At this point everything changed; Washington no longer saw Honolulu as part of its territory but instead saw it as part of Japan! As a result, businesses closed down all over town while classes were cancelled at all universities; even though most residents still considered themselves subjects of Japan anyway.– [4] The situation quickly deteriorated into anarchy when military forces loyal to Kalākaua swept into town unopposed and took control much like China's Manchuria Period revolutionaries did before them.– [5][6][7][8][9] The only thing holding things together was Captain John Lunalilo's platoon made up mostly young men who refused orders to march back home because there wasn't anything left worth fighting for other than food and shelter.– [10][11] And then came World War II: local military commanders deserted their posts en masse so Japanese soldiers could take over easily; schools were closed again because there was no one left teaching them; police officers took sides with Japanese troops instead of protecting civilians; civil servants turned against their employers due largely to economic reasons.; lava started flowing downhill from Haleakala volcano faster than anyone had anticipated…. What followed was chaos unlike anything seen before on these islands—- [12][13]: From 1941-1945 more than 100000 people lost their lives due directly or indirectly to air raids…..Asbestos insulation factory workers went missing after work one day just prior topake another attack………During WWII thousands upon thousands more Islanders suffered losses including loss Of life natural disasters such as tsunamis etc

The first Europeans to arrive on the islands were Spanish missionaries in 1778. The United States acquired the islands in 1898, and development of the economy was largely fueled by American military spending and commercial interests. In 1959, Hawaii became an independent state and moved towards a more traditional capitalist society. Since then, there has been a gradual return to traditional Hawaiian culture which is characterized by social solidarity, subsistence agriculture, and close economic ties with its mainland counterpart.
