After WW2 ended, advancements continued in optics technology with new designs and advancements in printing techniques which gave rise to what is now known as 3D printing technology. On October 3, 1879, the first practical reflecting telescope was constructed by Reverend George B. Snellen in his home in Brooklyn, New York. The Snellen Telescope was a 20-inch diameter mirror with an aperture of 1 1/4 inches and used a tube of glass with a focal length of four feet (1.8 meters). On July 16, 1892, Edwin A. Armstrong became the first person to use a reflector telescope to see Saturn's atmosphere from Earth.
Woodstock was founded in 1835 by two brothers, John and Jesse Woodstock. The town was named for the event that occurred at nearby Warren County Fairgrounds on April 19, 1835. At the fairgrounds, four thousand people attended a music festival that featured local and international performers. The festival was one of the first such events in America. In 1840, the town voted to incorporate as a city and it did so in 1845. By 1860, Woodstock had over fifty businesses and an population of around 1,000 people. In 1865, Union soldiers conducted an unauthorized search of the town while stationed there during the American Civil War. This search led to several arrests and damage to property within the town. After the war ended, Woodstock continued to grow rapidly but encountered some difficulties at home – including significant competition from neighboring towns such as Athens and Rome – which eventually caused its decline. However, due to efforts spearheaded by Mayor James Worthy (1868-1937), Woodstock regained its former glory by 1920 when it became one of Georgia's leading cultural centers for music and artistry. Today, Woodstock is a small community located approximately 20 miles northwest of Atlanta with a population of under 1000 residents."
In 1863, General Sherman's army discovered a small town in northeast Georgia called Woodstock. The Union army planned to march on Atlanta and capture the city, but they were met with resistance from the Confederate forces. After two months of fighting, the Union army was able to reach Atlanta and victory was finally achieved.
