A few weeks ago, I was in Woodstock, Georgia for the first time since it was established as a town in 1848. It is an interesting place to visit and has some amazing historical significance. Woodstock was originally called "Macon" after General Andrew Jackson's home state of Virginia. One of the first things that happened when Woodstock started to grow was that people from all over began moving here because of the good farmland and access to water resources. The town became very quickly known for its music scene, which started happening in the early 1800s when people traveled down from Tennessee to listen to live music at various venues like The circuit house and The Coffee House. In 1924, Woodstock began hosting its own annual festival - which is still going on today - and soon other small towns around Georgia were chiming in with their own festivals! Today, Woodstock is a thriving community with a population of over 20,000 residents who enjoy all sorts of cultural events and activities year-round. Some of my favorite things about living here include being able to walk or bike everywhere I want without feeling restricted; being close enough to major cities yet still away enough so that you can feel sequestered; and the wonderful history that has been crammed into this tiny town!

In 1857, the first railroad to travel through Georgia reached Woodstock, making it an important center for trade and commerce. In 1865, the Confederate army invaded Georgia and during the battle of Greenville, Woodstock was destroyed.
