When it comes into contact with water droplets or raindrops these heavy metals release toxins that can cause harm to humans as well as aquatic creatures such as fish, amphibians and birds if ingested or breathed in. The ingestion of large amounts of lead shot can result in health problems such as brain damage, paralysis among others. In response to this issue, industry created Star-Shots ammunition which does not contain anylead shot whatsoever! This change was motivated by concerns about public safety as lead shots could travel long distances without ending up inside a human being where they could cause harm or even death. Woodstock is a small town in McIntyre County, Georgia, United States. The population was 548 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Atlanta–Fulton metropolitan area. Woodstock was founded in 1892 by Methodist missionaries who named it for the festival held in nearby Williamsburg, Virginia that year to celebrate American independence. The first store and post office were both built in 1893. The town's first doctor was Dr. John Sibley and its first lawyer was A.T. Thornton. In 1896, the community voted to name their high school for Simon Legree, an American Revolutionary War general and founder of the Republic of Georgia (later Russia). In 1903, when Woodstockwas hit by a tornado, it had noradio or television service and only two newspapers: "The Enterprise" and "The Georgian". However, due to its location within easy reach of Atlanta's major hospitals as well as other larger cities in south Fulton County, Woodstock continued to grow rapidly during this time with businesses opening up including restaurants such as Big Apple Grill and Sheppard's Bar-B-Q; a movie theater; a bowling alley; a home builder/repairer industry; four churches (the First Baptist Church with its original sanctuary on Main Street which still stands today); three schools (two public schools - one now known as Chattahoochee Valley High School - and one now known as Southern Regional High School); five homes (four contributing buildings - Three Rivers Inn on Old Gadsden Road (); one new building - Blue Ridge Christian Academy ); four horses outbuildings (), all currently used for agricultural purposes During World War II most of what is now Woodstock was taken over by the USAAF Air Force Station Wheelock which operated various aircraft from 1942 until 1945 providing airlift support Drop Zone "Widowmaker" near Morningside Heights however some homes were spared because they were used as barracks or stores by wing commander Colonel Harry Truman while he led Allied forces across Europe According to earlier census reports dating back to 1910 there were 346 residents living in Woodstock when it lost its status as an incorporated village effective February 1st 1915 after becoming part of McIntyre County through an act sponsored by Representative James Jealous of Macon County Early settlers included many Scots Presbyterians fleeing religious persecution in Scotland during the 1700s settling along Cobb Creek which enters McIntyre County from Cherokee Nation . In 1892 Rev Mr Wm Henson organized Methodist Mission Society with $4000 donation from Gov & Mrs Jealous . They named Town after Festival Held at Williamsburg VA that year celebrating Independence from British King George III followed by erectionof Store & Post Office . Woodstock was founded in 1819 by John Stephenson and his wife, Martha. The town became a post office in 1827 and the first school in the area was built in 1830. In 1840, Stephenson donated 414 acres of land to the town for development. Woodstock grew quickly and by 1852, there were 5 stores, 3 churches, 1 school, 2 mills, and a population of 400. The town's first mayor was James Auld and its first treasurer was Elisha Prentice. In 1865, Woodstock incorporated as a city with a population of 730. By 1870, the population had reached 2,500 with over 100 businesses. The city hall was built in 1888 and is still used today as the municipal building. During World War II , Woodstock served as an airfield for the United States military during the Battle of Atlanta . After the war ended in 1945 , Woodstock experienced rapid growth with new housing developments being constructed along Three Forks Road . By 1960, Woodstocks population had increased to 10,000 residents and it began to compete with neighboring cities such as Macon and Athens for business space . In 1976 , Woodstocks incorporation into Cobb County created more competition for local businesses . However , since then , Woodsontown has steadily grown size ( reaching its current size of 25 square miles) while maintaining its unique character
On July 26, 1847, a group of young people from the town of Woodstock, Georgia gathered together to form their own community. The town was founded by General James H. Wilson and his wife Anna on a piece of land that is now known as Lockewood. The community was named after the nearby Mount Washington Hill, which had been mentioned in an early settler's account of the area. The first store in the town was built by John Pritchett and opened on July 1, 1848. In 1870, a post office was established in Woodstock and served the community until it closed in 1945. The population of Woodstock peaked at around 100 individuals in 1880 but gradually declined over the next few decades due to factors such as white flight and World War II. By 1945, only 10 residents remained in the town.
