The first firearms were brought to Woodstock in 1792 by a group of settlers. Riflemen from Georgia and Tennessee traveled to the area to buy arms, and soon there were gunfights between the two groups. In 1814, the town was renamed for General Andrew Jackson, who had fought in the American Revolution. The pistol that is now known as the "Old South Pistol" was made in Woodstock in 1824.
In the early 1800s, Woodstock was a small town in Georgia. It was home to many farmers and their families and it also served as a center for slaves. In 1851, Woodstock became the first town in Georgia to be incorporated as a city. The city soon grew prosperous and influential, thanks to its location close to the tracks that led north to Philadelphia and south to Atlanta. The city's economy changed however, when railroads came through the area. This resulted in an increase in traffic and noise which damaged the local economy even more. By 1870, Woodstock had lost all of its economic significance and population. However, it still remains an important historical site today because of its unique history and architecture.

Woodstock was founded in 1795 by the Reverend John Woolridge. It is located in Clarke County, Georgia, about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta. The town was named for a nearby wooded area called "Woodstock" because of its growth in that area during the early 1800s. The first permanent settler in Woodstock was James Bogue, who arrived in 1798. By 1815, the population had increased to over 100 people and it became a small town with its own school and post office. In 1825, Woodstock became part of the newly formed state of Georgia. At that time, it contained only a handful of homes and businesses. But over time, the town's development accelerated and by 1830 it had grown to include a courthouse, jail, storehouse, two churches (one Baptist/ Methodist and one Presbyterian), four schools (two public and two private), two stores (one general store and one bakery), three granges (a large barn used for storage as well as housing for livestock), five residences (four houses on lotS1-4 acres each) including three taverns or inns which served as social gathering places for locals and visitors alike; three newspapers - The Georgian Ledger; The Athens Gazette; and The Woodstock New Republican - were published from what is now known as the Gray Building on Main Street; four blacksmith shops; an insurance company; a doctor's office; several businesses such as dry goods stores, shoe stores, lumberyards etc.; As this rapidly developing community continued to grow there were more residents moving into more spacious homes while others decided to stay put or者 opened their own businesses following what must have been an exciting period of discovery when new transportation methods made access to all these resources much easier than ever before possible. Despite some challenges faced during this period like lack of reliable transportation or occasional Frontier War skirmishes between Cherokee Indians along with other factors such as crop failures which led to mass starvation among farmers many aspects within this thriving community remain relatively unchanged today including: high quality Schools With Well Equipped Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade Classes offering Instruction From Kindergartners through twelfth grade students along With A Comprehensive Library System Which Includes A Playground And Two Classrooms Available To Students ranging In All Ages Along With Many Additions & Renovations Over Time Including: A brand New Fire Station Was Installed In January Of 2017 That Supports Every Level Of Operations Including Response To Emergencies As Well As Other needs Which We Believe Will Make Our Community even More Welcoming And Affordable For Residents & Visitors alike
On July 1, 1945, the Battle of Woodstock ended with a decisive victory for the Allies. The town of Woodstock was liberated by General George Patton's Third Army and became the largest British-occupied town in the war.
