In 1848, a hospital was built in the town. From 1850 to 1860, there were two churches located in Woodstock: One operated by Methodists and one operated by Baptists. In 1861-1862, a railroad was built through Woodstocks and it became known as the "Atlanta Railroad." The population of Woodstocks decreased from 200 to 30 people between 1865-1868 due to two factors: One, crop failures caused by severe weather; Two, fighting occurred during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Between 1870-1872, only six residents remained inWOODSTOCK while another twenty moved into nearby towns including Marietta (now Atlanta), Roswell (now Ionia), Dunwoody (now Hartsfield-Atlanta International Airport), Kennesaw (now Decatur) and Peachtree City (now Tucker). On July 1st 1870 when Georgia statehood arrived on January 14th of that year local citizens voted overwhelmingly to adopt Confederate General Robert E Lee’s ordinance establishing an “Independent State of Georgia” with its own government without apology from either courthouse or legislature at Montgomery where South Carolina Constitution applied
On July 15, 1877, the first public performance of "Woodstock" took place in a small ballroom at the Woolworth Building on Broad Street. The show was organized by Edwin Forrest and featured music by J.C. Haydn, who played piano and orchestras on stage. The show was a great success and soon became popular throughout Georgia.
