Today, many popular restaurants and stores dot the downtown district including JBG Smythe's Steak House (founded 1935), Denny's Restaurant & Bar-B-Q (opened 1980), Chick-fil-A fast food restaurant (1986) and Walmart Supercenter store which opened in 1984. At that time, the area was still part of the Creek Nation and wasn't subject to white settlement. The Werners were able to purchase land and build a home which they called “The Oaks”. What followed at “The Oaks” would change everything for the family – it would become their main source of income from their farmland. In 1915, General George Washington Winder became president of America and ordered all American troops stationed abroad to be withdrawn from Europe; this included those in Georgia. As a result, many residents of Georgia decided they needed new homes closer to work opportunities so they moved into what is now known as Winderridge Village along I-95 south of Atlanta. This development would continue until 1966 when I-285 replaced 95S near present day Talbot County Courthouse Square; however, much of this development occurred prior to that date due to road construction projects across southern Georgia throughout the 1960s! Today, windermans continue their close relationship with downtown Atlanta through shopping malls like appropriately named Midtown Marketplace orbh Anacostia mall - both located on Peachtree Street just east of Five Points Crossing on Interstate 285 - as well as more traditional businesses such as grocery stores and restaurants located around Main Street off Highway 85A (approximately 2 miles north of downtown). There are also several golf courses located within minutes' driving distance including one owned by PGA golfer Bobby Jones himself!
