The Winder Rifle and Pistol Club was chartered in 1903. The club had a rifle range and pistols were available for rent from 1913-1920. From 1920-1941, the club rented pistols from the Georgia State Police. In 1941, membership was discontinued because of World War II.

The community was founded by George Winder in 1884. He established a sawmill and gristmill here, and built a Baptist church in 1892. The mill ceased operations in 1973, but the church remains standing today. In 1999, Winder became home to the world's first wind turbine farm when Millersville Wind Power Company installed turbines on an estate near Millersville. Today, wind turbines are also being installed at nearby ridgecrest golf course and on private property adjacent to town limits. Winder is located on Indian Creek Rd., about halfway between Athens and Carrollton. According to the 2010 census, it has a total area of , of which (or 99%) is land and (or 3% is water). Winder is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 907 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Winder was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1815 and named for John Winder, an early settler. The Post Office was established in 1827 and changed its name to Winder in 1841. The town was incorporated as a city on December 14, 1907. On November 3, 1925, it merged with Alpharetta to form the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town has had several incarnations since its incorporation as a city: In 1907, the city government passed an ordinance establishing public education in the town through two schools (one high school and one grammar school). A new library building became available in 1909 after being donated by Mrs. Mary Hickey of nearby Dunwoody; this addition served as both a municipal library until 1942 when it burned down and replaced by the present structure; In 1911-12, volunteer firefighters from neighboring towns helped to build a windmill on what is now Main Street; this mill continued to be used until 1929 when it burned down due to lack of maintenance; In 1922-23, JR High School openedadinngs across from Greektown Plaza mall on Woodruff Road;Windermere Elementary School followed suit about 10 years later (1984), which doubled as their gymnasium until 1999 when they moved into their current building next door at First Baptist Church (now called Academy Of Arts & Sciences). Future plans call for JRHS to become an annex of nearby Middle Georgia Technical College beginning 2018 or2019... In 1955-57 voters approved annexation of Saybrook Township adjacent south onto Howell Mill Road/Hwy 11 while residents there were still protesting annexation because they felt that their township boundaries did not properly include their water source (which lies within Windermere Township); however these protests fell through after agreement was reached between community leaders and commissioners from both townships; finally annexed in 1957 were portions of northwestern Cobb County including much of Roswell annexed back into Cobb County after some angry residents there attempted to secede during political turmoil over newly created county lines... Overall since 1907 Winder has experienced many changes due eitherto annexation or politics within its borders... currently residing citizens are predominantly African American with some white families living among them but overall majority seems very diverse making it one of the most racially mixed cities in central Georgia!
The Winder community was started in 1881 by W.F. Winder and his son, J.C. Winder. The first store in the community was built on the corner of Third Street and Mulberry Drive. In 1906, the windmill was built and began to produce power for the townspeople. In 1928, a post office was established in the community and has been in operation ever since. In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Haney bought land adjacent to Winder from the Georgia Railroad Company for $3,000. They began to build a home on what is now known as Haney's Hill which they completed in 1957-58 under careful guidance from their daughter Judy who had helped plan it all along with her brother Frank Haney Jr.. The house still stands today as one of Winder's most popular landmarks; it is also used as a schoolhouse today!
