One year later, in 1830, settlers arrived from northeast Georgia with their families and began construction on what would become the nucleus of today'sWindermere community. The first school was built in 1829 at Presentation Baptist Church; it served students until 1839 when a new school building was constructed at present day Crossroads Elementary School (now Rainey Middle School). By 1840 there were 300 residents living within one mile (1 km) of where present day Windermere Community Park now stands; however due to lack of space and funding issues only 60 residents lived within onehalf mile (0.8 km) of where the park now stands! A post office opened in 1850 which remained open until 1911; during this time mail was carried both ways between Clifton Forge Arsenal and nearby towns such as Marietta and Kennesaw Ridge via horseback or wagon train service over then existing trails connecting these two communities directly without having to go through windermere! Wider transportation options led to more people moving into town over time including factories located along I-285 which started opening up shortly before World War I brought an end to those lands production local mills could no longer compete with Thanks to volunteer fire departments established throughout town during this time firefighters also played an important role early on ensuring critical services like water supply continued uninterrupted even during times Of drought!
