The company was founded by James Fulton and his brother-in-law, Bryant Randolph. After Randolph's death in 1868, the company passed to his son Johnathan Randolph. In 1901, the business moved to its current location on Third Street and continued to produce firearms ammunition until it closed in 2002. After several failed attempts at starting a school or mercantile enterprise within walking distance of his plantation, Forrest finally realized that he needed more than just someone to work for him; he needed somebody who could actually shoot guns for him so he could protect himself and his property from raiders and other enemies alike. So upon learning about powder production from a local blacksmith who had Handgunnery School training under US Captain Samuel Pryor,[1] Forrest hired Georges Chastain (1863-1937) as their first employee.[2] Chastain would go on to become one of America's most accomplished pistol shooters[3][4] Although not everyone worked for Mr. Forrest outright - some men like Chastain worked freelance while others received paychecks from different customers - all employees were required to learn how to shoot handguns before they could be considered for permanent employment with Mr. Forrest's company.[5][6] This early training program would prove invaluable given that few people were able to do much else after being discharged from military service during Reconstruction era.[7] As Production increased manufacturing moved out into larger plants where products were made using multiple processes including forging brass rounds through hammering them instead of cutting them down like earlier methods then cooling them then firing them off an foundry process which produced fine case steel rounds which led directly into making shotgun cases etc...later stilli revolver cases were also made but these are more commonly known today as minor arms ammo
