Target holders were used to hold small balls orankels (20 caliber bullets) so that shooters could aim them accurately at distant targets from their homes or businesses. In 1938, the Hargrave family passed away and their son-in-law, Harry W. Dorman Jr., took over production of the target holders. He continued to make them using traditional methods including bending metal tubing into a V shape and then welding it together at intervals with iron fittings for stability and durability. Today, the target holders are still in use in Waycross and are enjoyed by many shooters across America.

They would take a piece of wood and place it over the back of a chair so that they could shoot at targets from their homes. In 1951, the association changed to women and then in 1957, to boys. In 1959, the association changed its name to Waycross Shooting Range & Museum.
Waycross, Georgia is a small town located in the U.S. state of Georgia. Waycross is part of the Athens-Clarke County, and has a population of around 10,000 people. The area that makes up Waycross began to be inhabited by Native Americans about three centuries ago. In 1823, the United States Government decided to build a military post in what is now Waycross after watching British troops retreating from an engagement near Fort McAllister on the Chattahoochee River. The post was called Fort McIntosh and it remained in use until 1827 when it was abandoned due to its location within rifle range of British forces stationed at Decatur House on Oconee River. In 1838, John Wesley Hardin established a trading post at Waycross with his brother Samuel which became known as Hardin’s Station (later renamed Hardin’s Store). It served as a base for operations during the Indian War (1812-1814) and also acted as a supply stop for General Andrew Jackson's army during their march through central Georgia in 1824-25. After the war ended, Hardin's Store continued to operate as a store until 1840 when it burned down. In 1850, way crossed was platted by James Dickey and named after him after crossing over from Alabama into Georgia on horseback named "Dickey's Crossing" (now Dixons Ferry). Dickey had been appointed surveyor general for Alabama and was tasked with determining which lands would be used for farming or development within southeastern Georgia . After reaching way crosser from Mobile Bay on December 24th 1850 he measured out 5 square miles of land between Bean Creek and Muscogee Creek just northwest of present day Waycross town limits

On July 21, 1892, Waycross was incorporated as a town in Fulton County, Georgia. The name of the community was chosen to honor the brothers Elijah and James Waycross, who were instrumental in helping to found the city. On January 1, 1903, Waycross became a city after being approved by the county commissioners.
