Hollywood pictures went bankrupt during World War II and were bought by Republic Pictures Corp., which renamed it Republic Pictures Corporation after its merger with Allied Artists plc. The town developed into a major cotton center due to its location at the junction of several railroad lines and its access to cheap labor from central Alabama. The towns growth led to significant development within the community itself with many homes being built around square blocks called "blocks" which could be rented out for various purposes such as agricultural or residential use. In 1865, Warner Robins became known as one of the most important railroads in Georgia due to its importance in transporting cotton downriver for export. The arrival of this new industry allowed for increased housing development within the town and also allowed for more businesses and residences to be erected along Main Street. By 1870, Warner Robins had become an important center for rail transportation throughout southern Georgia. During World War I, Warner Robins played an important role in supplying military forces with materials needed for war including munitions and foodstuffs. This helped contribute significantly to SouthernGeorgia's morale during wartime times. After World War I ended, significant redevelopment took place in downtown Warner Robbins including construction of a municipally funded library which served as both a cultural resource and commercial entity throughout downtowns years of growth; as well as additions such as restaurants and nightlife opportunities becoming available on mainstreet during this time period
