During the Civil War era, Villa Rica became an important supply stop for Confederate soldiers marching westward along Interstate 85 through central Georgia. After the war ended in 1865, most of the major development took place within villarica itself rather than outside it; this included new churches (including one dedicated to Stonewall Jackson), schools and other infrastructure projects developments such as roads and bridges connecting villarica with surrounding townsfolk
