The town also prospered through its involvement in military campaigns against Native Americans such as the Battle of longstreet Bridge which took place near present day Valdosta on October 11, 1802. In 1815, Villagra lost its autonomy when it merged with neighboring Buford County to form Atlanta County under Governor Thomas Telford’s new government system. During the late 19th century, villagra declined as railroad construction increased access to resources such as coal and cotton at great expense within town limits; however, some efforts have been made recently to revive interest invillagra through restoration projects (e.g., shopping plazas), tours (including educational programs), and preservation organizations
Villa Rica was established in 1792 as an agricultural colony by the Spanish. The area now known as Villa Rica was originally part of what is today Georgia. In 1802, it became a U.S. territory and in 1912, it became a state of Georgia.
