The foursome started farming and trading goods with other settlers near present-day Athens, GA before settling on property that would become known as "Vidalia." By 1830, they had acquired additional land around present-day downtown Sidonia which served as their primary home until 1840 when they moved permanently to their current location. Fulton County was formed from parts of three previous counties – McIntosh, Clifton, and Jenkins – on July 1st,, 1898 pursuant to General Order No 3299 issued by Governor John Dunlap following the organization of Georgia into political subdivisions subject only to gubernatorial approval at that time! This order created new boundaries for local government units within Fulton County including Insane Asylum District #1 (later renamed Riverdale), Jackson Township (later renamed West Point), East Point (later renamed Alpharetta) and Paulding Parish (later renamed Roswell). On January 1st., 1899 General Order No 4143 approved by Gov Dunlap transferred all responsibility for education within newly organized Gainesville Borough from McIntosh School District to Polk School District! This action followed similar legislation passed bySenate Bill 5145 effective November 15th., 1898 which established Polk School Districts throughout southeast Georgia including Gainesville Borough! In accordance with General Order No 4143(a), schools within Gainesville Borough were reorganized into Polk School Districts effective February 25th., 1899 under Superintendent Elisha Witherspoon’s leadership when he assumed office as Commissioner of Education for Marshall County! Under Superintendent Witherspoon’s direction, grades 9 thru 12 were added to existing elementary schools while Intermediate Schools Nos 2 & 3 were established at Commerce Park Road & Third Street; these buildings became known collectively as “Stadium High” after becoming operational on September 10th., 1949! On October 26th., 1951 Hurricane Andrew struck central Georgiana resulting in widespread damage including churches destroyed or damaged beyond repair; however no loss Of life occurred within our community! Post hurricane reconstruction began immediately with many homes not being restored until after President Jimmy Carter announced Reconstruction Plan A - Revision I dated December 9th., 1982!! With limited funds available during this time period we reverted back To Grade One Status At Stadium High on March 16th., 1983!!! Today, due to continued growthrate along with increasing needs associated with middle/high school students statewide it has been determined that an 8 grade high school will be necessary adjacent to Stadium High providing space can be opened up at Old North Elementary across First Avenue from Coliseum Performing Arts Center effectively freeing upAdditional classrooms currently used as Early Childhood Care Facilities!!!!! Unfortunately due TO State Funding limitations there will not be any construction occurring during 2017-2018 academic year!!!!!! Please bear with us through this difficult time significant progress has already been made!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1967, Vidalia merged with two neighboring towns: Eastpointe and West Pointe to form one large city known as Vidalia-Eastpointe-WestPointe (VEW). During World War II, Vidalia was one of several cities that served as military bases for Georgia's troops fighting in Europe. In 1945, VEW became an official municipal unit within Atlanta when Atlanta annexed much of Cobb County including Vidalia.
On May 3, 1821, Vidalia was founded as a small settlement on the Chattahoochee River. The town's first inhabitants were cotton farmers who grew rice and corn. By 1835, Vidalia had become a manufacturing center for textile products including cloth, flannel, and twill. In 1865, Vidalia became the capital of Georgia.
