Valdosta, Georgia is a small town in the state of Georgia. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. Valdosta is located on the Chattahoochee River and includes portions of both Cobb County and Fulton County. Valdosta is known for its cotton plantations, now used for agricultural purposes. The history of Valdosta goes back to 1821 when General James Wilkinson founded what would become Valdosta County as part of the new country that gained independence from Great Britain. After years of struggle against Native Americans, European settlement began in earnest in 1836 when President Andrew Johnson announced plans to create an area called Holstonian Territory to encompass all of present-day Cobb and Fulton Counties. By 1840, over 1,000 settlers had arrived in what would become Valdosta County; by 1845 it had grown to 10 settlements with a population of 30 people. In 1850, following the American Civil War, three congressional districts were created: one comprising Cobb and Fulton Counties (the easternmost section then), one comprising only Thomson (the westernmost section), and one including all present-day Gwinnett County (including most of present-day Valdosta). In 1875–76 Governor John Blythe authorized construction of the first Banking District No. 2 in central Georgia; this district became known as "Valdostan." On July 16th 1897 – just two weeks after taking office as governor – Blythe directed that "No man be allowed within limits laid down by him regarding banking." This order marked the beginning of what would eventually be called "Banking District Number Two" which still operates today outof downtown Valdosta under different name(s) - First National Bank & Trust Company being among them - while other businesses have since moved into adjoining rooms or buildings on Forsyth Street between Jackson Avenue et al., constituting what has come to be known as Old City Hall Annexe Building #2 on Jackson Avenue across from First National Bank building #1 on Main Street/ Courthouse Square east side extending northward from main courthouse square frontage westward along Courthouse Square frontage thence northerly along Jackson Avenue northwesterly along Courthouse Square easterly along alley leading thereto from main street corner

However, due to its high levels of poverty and crime, Valdosta has been struggling since the 2000s with several attempted coups or riots attributed to its population angst.
As of the 2010 census, Valdosta had a population of 14,773. The median household income was $36,667 and the median family income was $46,375.
