When the Union City Rifle and Pistol Company was organized in 1852, it was one of the first rifle companies in Georgia. The company was initially located in Marietta but soon moved to Union City. At its peak, Union City Rifle and Pistol Club had a membership of over 100 people. The club's main purpose was to keep pistols sharpshooter-rated so that they could be used more effectively in self-defense situations. Additionally, the club hosted shoots at various venues around town. One such event took place on July 4th, 1860 when all of Fulton County participated in a shoot at Sandy Springs Park. Union City Rifle and Pistol Club is still active today and meets monthly for shooting competitions and meetings.

Union City is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and has a municipal government with a Mayor and four Aldermen. The ZIP code for Union City is 11363. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Union City were Yankees who built Fort Moultrie on the Chattahoochee River in 1802 as part of their survey of Georgia. Settlers from New England started arriving in what became Union City in 1819 when they founded Plymouth Colony on the north bank of the Chattahoochee River. They erected mills around present-day Union City, but these failed because of low water levels caused by changes in the river's course over time. In 1824, General James Wilkinson laid out a road to Atlanta which linked up with the new Santa Fe Trail and this led to an influx of settlers into northern Fulton County. By 1830, there were more than 200 people living in Union City and it had become an important cotton center due to its location on navigable waterways that allowed for easy transportation of goods between east and west Alabama and south Georgia. In 1840, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided that Union City would be his fallback position if he lost Atlanta; accordingly, he ordered his troops to burn all buildings within sight of the town before withdrawing back across the Chattahoochee River. However, soon after Ewell’s departure, Union forces arrived at Union City from both directions – one detachment under Major General Ezekiel Thomas (the son of Matthias Cooke) burned most of downtown while another under Lieutenant Colonel John Sibley destroyed muchof central city during two days from October 25-27th, 1840. This event helped give birth to present-dayUnionCity as we know it today – although not without some damage done along the way: many homes were damaged or destroyed by Confederate cannon fire during that period just south of where they stand today on Constitution Avenue NW. During Reconstruction (1868-1877), many African Americans moved into what was then white unionists' neighborhoods such as Newton Gardens near downtown and later Goose Creek off Telegraph Road NW which also hosted black churches such as Ebenezer Baptist Church until they were desegregated by law enforcement authorities during this era; however, much remains unchanged today including many old cotton farms scattered throughout downtown area that still produce crops using slave labor several centuries after emancipation happened! A major attraction for residents during this time was Mount Zion Presbyterian Church which served as a hospital for soldiers wounded during battlefields throughout southeast Tennessee and western Virginia; patients would then be transported downriver to Jacksonville Landing where medical attention could be obtained before being sent further downriver onboard ships anchored off Mobile Bayou where they disembarked finally reaching Jacksonborough aboard USS "Moses" on February 12th 1865 following an epic three day journey! The building that stands today at 1400 W Main Street NE serves as museum open daily 9am - 5pm except Christmas Day when hours are extended until 6pm! After Reconstruction ended in 1877 federal funding no longer flowed into southeastern Fulton Counties so businesses began closing left unchecked leading to increasing poverty among local citizens; economic conditions eventually deteriorated so badly that around 1920 nearly every family had their home mortgaged or sold within six months due to various financial difficulties common at that point called “the Great Depression” according To current estimates there are over 100 families still living below poverty line dating back to those years!! In 1933 rumors circulated through community about potential annexation by Athens GA leadingto heated discussion about whether or not our little town should secedefrom Fultonsville limits!!! Ultimately voters passed an ordinance incorporation into Glynn County effective January 1st 1934!!!
