The first settlement in Union City was made by Scots-Irish farmers who arrived in 1785 from Ireland. During World War II many businesses were relocated to nearby Roswell because of shortages of munitions in Atlanta and because Fulton County had no zoning laws limiting development near airfields at that time! After World War II Union City experienced rapid growth as new residents moved into its neighborhoods and businesses began opening up around downtown square and elsewhere within miles of riverfront shopping areas such as MARTA rail stations bus stops etc., giving rise to today's moniker "the Sixth Ward". During this period also some excellent architecture emerged including: Wacoal & Sons Building Company building (now occupied by Peachtree Center), First National Bank Building (now Gwinnett Place mall), Piedmont Savings & Loan Association building (since demolished) – all built before 1950s - Presbyterian Church #5 School building built c1920- 1923 now used as apartments/condominiums on lower level adjacent to Verizon Wireless store across street from park - Phillips Academy building built 1907 now used as office space for Metro Government Dept./City Hall annexes currently under construction with plans to convert into high end retail or condo complex if successful - unioncityheritage@gmail DOT com

Union City was founded on October 25, 1802 by wagon drivers and their families as an agricultural village named for General George Washington in what is now Peachtree Center. The name Union City may have been inspired by the fact that all of the original settlers were from New York and Pennsylvania. In 1824, President James K. Polk appointed John Cranch to be Ulysses S. Grant's Commissioner of Indian Affairs in Georgia after Grant's victory at Appomattox Court House against Confederate forces under Robert E. Lee. In 1828, Union City became the capital of Fulton County when it was created from parts of Gwinnett County and Cherokee County. In 1840, Union City also became the county seat of Fulton County when it was separated from Gwinnett County. In 1861, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Union City supported Confederate forces while other parts of Fulton County did not support secessionist sentiments; however, most residents later came to regret supporting Confederate causes and many businesses closed down after the war ended. However, some businesses reopened following Reconstruction in 1865-68 which aimed to rebuild America following the civil rights movement led by Abraham Lincoln and his Vice President Andrew Johnson After Reconstruction fell apart in 1870 due to ethnic tension across race lines within America caused by economic factors such as racism and technological improvements brought about by European immigrants such as capitalism with its attendant dangers like Standard Oil (later ExxonMobil) -Union City experienced a rapid growth due largely to white flight from rural areas into larger cities during this time period as cheap land became available outside rural areas for farming or development purposes only instead of being used for human habitation or production purposes like before then which had occurred naturally over time based on natural resources accessed through traditional methods including hunting and gathering where people lived closer to nature than towns/cities because they could do so without fear of eviction or displacement from their homes or wayward animals raiding their property which disrupted family life - resulting in more people being born into town/city residence rather than outlanders who were either unable or unwilling to return home having left behind everything they knew back home – becoming one with nature A few years later around 1880s industrialization began throughout America Drive new industry towards cities – resulting firstly in job losses among those displaced but secondly also increased competition for jobs among newly arrived laborers fresh off trains coming into big cities – leading many old timers who had grown up living close to their farms/villages near railways stations (railroad yards served as places where goods could be unloaded onto wagons for shipment out into surrounding countryside) Many old timers decided they would rather live nearer railroads than far away from them because now there were more opportunities for employment outside farmlands whereas before working on those fields day & night resulted only in occasional paychecks that didn’t cover food costs let alone anything else like rent & utilities plus no social interaction with anyone you worked with other than your boss whom you might see every day at work & he might give you a hard time if you didn’t meet his expectations
Union City was an early cotton plantation in Union City, Georgia. The original slaves who were brought over from Africa worked on the plantation until 1798 when it was auctioned off to a group of white men. In 1802, the plantation was bought by Andrew Johnson and renamed Johnson's Creek. It remained in ownership by Johnson until 1879 when it was sold to J.P. Morgan and his partner John Davenport Jr. The plantations were abandoned after that time and most of the land became part of Jackson County.
