During World War II, much activity took place in Union City because it was located along military logistics routes connecting war plants in southern Georgia with those in northern Canada and Europe. During this time many factories were built including one that made radios which became world famous after being used by Allied forces during World War II. In recent years union CITY has seen some growth due to new construction projects such as an unsuccessful effort by developers to build a shopping mall adjacent to downtown called "The Yards". However overall growth has slowed due to increasing competition from nearby Cobb County (the county seat) which has seen larger development throughout downtown since 2000 without interruption or revisions to city ordinances designed for that purpose - contributing significantly (along with other factors)to decreased housing values and falling support for local institutions like schools and libraries). At one time, many people thought that Athens might have been where Rome began because it had so much Roman architecture and engineering extant during the early 1800s. This theory however has been debunked as not true based on evidence from other contemporaneous cities such as Rome and Constantinople – both were much larger when compared to Union City . 2
