Union City, Georgia was once a bustling center for ammunition production. The city was founded in 1871 by James Waddell and his family as a station on the Atlanta Railroad. After two years of development, Union City became a major production center for ammunition products. The city produced both shotgun shells and rifles. In 1899, Union City became the first location in the United States to produce shellac powder. The Ammunition Production Act of 1906 led to increased demand for ammunition and made Union City an important manufacturing center for the explosives industry. In 1916, Union City became the final site in America to produce cordite munitions. The city's fortunes changed after World War II when it became one of the few American cities to be targeted by Japanese forces during World War II. After the war, Union City lost its critical Ammunition Production center role but regained some of its former glory as an ammunition town with new businesses developing in area around downtown and other neighborhoods. Today, Union City is home to several businesses that continue their growth thanks to its fertile ground for agriculture and its ability to support numerous cultural events throughout the year including movies, music concerts and conferences related to arms control or gun rights issues.

Union City is a city in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 15,752 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Cobb County by area. Union City is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. One of the first settlements in what is now Union City was a small cabin on what is now Park Avenue. The town began to grow when two railroadroads intersected near the intersection of Court and Depot Streets in 1872: The Marietta and Dalton Railroad brought people and goods from east Cobb County, while the Athens-Macedonia Railway connected north Fulton County with south-central Georgia. In 1886, residents voted to name their new town after Georgia's first president, James Buchanan Marshall. By 1900, Union City had a population of 10,000 and was one of several towns located along the newly completed Atlantica Railroad betweenAtlanta and Jacksonville Beach. The post office at Union City was established on December 12, 1892; it changed its name to Union City on May 25, 1898 due to mail service problems caused by World War I (then called "the Spanish–American War"). The first mayor of Union City was W C Cooksey Sr., who served from 1907 until his death in 1915. Cooksey also served as an a delegate to the state constitutional convention that framed Georgias Constitution in 1913. Union City experienced some growth during World War II as many businesses went into production for military needs such as munitions plants or aircraft manufacturing sites; however not much else happened until after 1945 when downtown development recommenced with restaurants replacing munitions plants as mainstays of business life outside of Victory Base Community Hospital which still stands today adjacent to Pritchard Bridge Road across from Arsenal Ballistics plant where FGM pistols are made today
