After he took office, he ordered several military campaigns throughout Southeast Georgia. These campaigns helped drive out Voldemort supporters from the region and made it easier for farmers to get food supplies needed for their crops

The town began as a small farming community on the east side of Chattahoochee River near where it empties into the river. A canal was built through what is now Tifton to bring water from the Ocmulgee River and increased trade helped drive growth in the community. In 1837, Tifton became an incorporated municipality with a population of just over 50 people and by 1860 had reached 1,500 residents. By 1890, when it merged with neighboring Decatur to form Tifton-Decatur Township, its population had swollen to 10,000 and rapid growth continued throughout the 20th century until World War II destroyed most of downtown business and residential buildings. Afterward development focused on agriculture and local manufacturing which continues to provide jobs today.
