Thomasville is located in the Walton County, Georgia area and has been a center for firearm shooting for over 100 years. It was once home to one of the largest gun ranges in the Southeast, operated by The National Rifle Association (NRA). When he arrived in Thomasville, Jackson discovered that many of these new Georgians were farmers who had long been loyal to their former state but were recently denied federal aid because of its large slave population. To remedy this situation, Jackson offered $10 per acre (equivalent to about $1 million at today's prices) for any land that could be taken up within 10 miles of Atlanta. This offer sparked an intense rush among rural settlers who quickly claimed most of what would become Cobb County - including Thomasville - under one condition: that they erect a courthouse or jail within 12 months! The result was an impressive courthouse/jail complex known as Courthouse Square which still stands today despite being extensively bombarded during World War II (although much damage has been done since then). Although Courthouse Square experienced some neglect during the 20th century until it was rehabbed in the 1990s, overall it has remained an important landmark in downtown Thomasville – home to local businesses and government buildings dating back to 1797 through 1932 – making it one of the most significant civic hubs inGeorgia’s history. The first school in town was opened in 1812 by Mrs. Martha Cuthbert with six students attending each day until her death four years later. At that time there were no schools within 10 miles of Thomasville so instruction took place over horseback riding or walking to other villages aroundGA. A new school building was erected on State Route 309 near today's courthouse starting from scratch with supplies provided by subscription and donations from individual citizens during Reconstruction period In 1865 Newton Kelley became first African American teacher in Georgia when he joined Mrs Jane Mosely's class at St Andrews Presbyterian Church School #2 which had been started two years earlier as a girls' school run by Rev Dr William Henson Newton Kelley went on to become oneofGeorgia's longestservingteachersandservedfrom1865untilhis retirementin1978 In1892 two brothers - Jesse and William Witherspoon - opened Witherspoon Drug Store next door to their father's post office which became an important local source for goods available throughout much of northeast Georgia . When Interstate 95 was constructed through central Georgia they decided it would be wise to move their store down along I 95 instead of opposing its construction . They moved into their current location across from Philips Arena 15 years later In 2006 Witherspoon Drug Store reopened under new ownership after being closed for many years

Thomasville grew up on a small family farm in the early 1800s. The first settler in what is now Thomasville was Mr. John Meeks, who arrived in 1802. In 1811, Mrs. Elizabeth Pemberton and her husband William Pemberton founded the town of Thomasville. The first store was opened in 1814 by Mr. James Smith and his wife Lucy Bean. In 1865, the town was incorporated as a city by an act of the Georgia General Assembly.
