Thomasville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 5,977 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. In 1881, Thomasville was founded by brothers Elijah and Jameson Blythe on land that belonged to their father. Thomasville's first store was built on Church Street. The town grew rapidly due to its location next to the Macon Railroad and its access to navigable waterways. By 1886, Thomasville had a school, library, Methodist church and two churches: First Baptist and Presbyterian. In 1893, the town voted to rename itself after General George Washington (who died in 1799). The town's first post office opened in 1895. By 1899, Thomasville had a railroad depot and nine stores. In 1903-1905, local farmers began cultivating cotton plantations which yielded an important cash crop for the town coffers; however these plantations were abandoned during World War I because of lack of available technological assistance from American war planners; this hindered growth in the post-World War II era until it recommenced during 1946 when some new technological assistance enabled farmers to revive cotton production on existing plantations In 1968-1972 Thomasville experienced significant racial tension when African Americans working as white laborers sought retribution against black workers who broke contract terms or took advantage of white customers through "blackmail." This violence led one black resident to brandish a BB gun at whites working outside his home before being arrested by police officers who arrived unannounced The current community center complex was dedicated in 1984 as part of Mayor Tom Battle's campaign promise not only for infrastructure improvements but also for education initiatives such as summer school tuition relief and Head Start programs In 1996-1998 much controversy surrounded changes made to municipal government ordinances which limited voting rights for poor residents while increasing voting power for wealthier residents - particularly those living near shopping malls - among others Thomasville has experienced rapid economic growth over recent decades thanks largely to suburban development within walking distance of its schools and businesses although there are still pockets of poverty

Thomasville is a small town in Georgia, located on the borders of Cobb and Fulton counties. The population was 3,468 at the 2010 census. Thomasville is one of the oldest towns in Georgia and has been around since 1786. The town was named for General James Robertson who operated a trading post there in 1786. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Thomasville were farmers who came overland from Tennessee about 1800. They began farming the area that includes present-day Cobb County and built their homes near the Chattahoochee River. By 1810, many of these early settlers had died from diseases brought over by travelers on horseback or by boat across the river. In 1818, General John Ross established a military post near what is now Thomasville, name changing it to Fort Ross after his victory at Horseshoe Bend against Indian forces led by Chief Tecumseh. After years of being used as a base camp for exploring new areas of Georgia, Fort Ross was abandoned in 1826 when white settlement began encroaching upon its territory. In 1848, Thomasville became an incorporated town under state law following passage of the State Constitution which guaranteed voting rights to African American residents. In 1865, racism within society forced black Georgians to leave their homes and move into newly founded Atlanta due to segregation laws then still in place throughout most of America. At this time, much industry took place around downtown Thomasville where cotton mills were developed along with other businesses such as grocery stores and dispensaries (the first dispensary west of the Appalachian Mountains). When World War II began two miles away at Duluth Army Airfield just east of town, both military activity and civilian life stopped while people worked at home to help support their war effort. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 not knowing that US forces were already stationed in nearby Thunderbolt Field southeast of town all hell broke loose as Japanese planes strafed residential neighborhoods killing large numbers civilians; including women and children living inside houseswives’ shops trying to sell items they had bought when bombs went off outside; grandparents caring for grandchildren during school hours; husbands working late from home; mothers helping with laundry; toddlers playing outdoors... It should be noted that during this time almost everyone knew somebody else who had been injured or killed in action because no newspapers nor any radios existed then... Many things changed after Pearl Harbor but downtownThomasville never did losing its busy commercial district until recently when Interstate 85 made landfall cutting off access
