Thomasville is located in the southeastern corner of Georgia, right around the bend from Savannah. It was a frontier town until the late 1800s when it became an agricultural center with small-town feel. The first gun light in Thomasville was placed on a bridge over the Suwannee River by local farmers in 1872. At that time, guns were not allowed on public roads and trails so illumination was necessary to see one's way while patrolling or hunting. In 1886, local resident John Simons erected a small "gun light" at his home which still stands today. Many businesses closed throughout this time due primarily to changes brought about by post-WWII suburbanization but one remaining business – A&W Root Beer – has continued operations uninterrupted since 1915 despite numerous challenges faced by other more recent businesses such as online sales titan Amazon LLC who moved into town Center two blocks away in 2007 while also seeking annexation by neighboring Jasper Countysite Athens International Airport began plans for a massive expansion across Main StreetEliminating most of downtown Thomsonvillescontaining much valuable property along with displacing many residents resulting in some negative impacts on community fabric over time
