That changed last year when historian Johnnie Sheckett wrote his definitive history of Thomas County entitled "From Cotton Fields to Metropolis: A History of Thomasville." This groundbreaking work set out to provide comprehensive coverage not only of this historically significant community but also itscultural influences on other parts of Fulton County during its heyday as an industrial center – including nearby Dothan and Roswell – during the late 19th century when cotton prices boomed thanks to expanding production in both America’s Deep South and England’s Liverpool Fertilizer Factory A look back at some key figures in Thomasville’s development can help explain why so much has happened here since1800: Major Ridge (a slaveholder who purchased slaves from Africa) was one; William Hartsfield founded what is now Delta Air Lines in 1947; several churches – including First Baptist Church (now Godfrey Islamic Center), Second Baptist Church (now Jubilee Lutheran Church), Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel (now Southern Baptist church), Stellate Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel (now Evangelical church), Holy Cross Catholic ApostolicChurch helped found Centennial Hospital; prominent citizens included Samuel Mayhew “Sheebee” Mayhew Sr., Elijah Boggs “Bozo” Beale III, Booker T Washington Sr., James Weldon Johnson Jr., James Meredith College founder Ebenezer Scrooge McDuckitt Despite these successes there were also times when things went wrong for either party involved: For instance, when SheebeeMayhew killed his overseer in 1840 after being asked to do so by another master; or when two white men were lynched within sight of her home following a dispute about corn prices But overall it seems that life here never really stopped moving forward even though people sometimes had to go through tough times - like Ridge having to sell all his slaves back at once due to economic troubles during Reconstruction
