Thomasville is a small town in Georgia, and its history with firearms dates back to the early 1800s. The first gun shops were opened up in this area by farmers who needed to keep their firearms safe from robbers. By 1825, there were at least sixgunsmiths operating in Thomasville. These shops specialized in making pistols, rifles and shotguns. The development of the rifle began in earnest during the American Revolution when troops used these guns for fighting against British forces. As muzzle-loading guns became more popular, Gunsmiths had to develop ways to make them more reliable and efficient. The first successful rifles were created by John Browning in 1847. This man invented the modern rifle which allowed troops to carry larger numbers of rounds with them on battlefields. During World War II, Thomasville became one of the most important places in Georgia for firearm production because it was home to several major manufacturers of weapons including Winchester Repeating Arms Company, Colt Firearms Company and Heizer Manufacturing Corporation. During this time period, Thomson-Houston Electric Co., a leading manufacturer of electronic devices also operated out of Thomasville. In 1980, Winchester merged with Colt Firearms Company creating what is now known as Winchester Repeating Arms Company Incorporated (WRAI). Today, WRAI manufactures all types of firearms including revolvers (excluding semi-automatic pistols), shotguns and handguns under the trademark Winchester brand worldwide

Thomasville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,748 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and was originally named "Macon". The town was founded by John Thomas and his family in 1820. John Thomas had come from England to escape religious persecution. He erected a log cabin here in 1822. In 1840, he donated land for a courthouse and jail which still stands today. In 1845, the first school was built in the town - now known as "Thomasville Elementary School" - and it served local residents until 1957 when it became part of Fulton County's Schools system. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided that Thomasville would be his headquarters after learning of Union General Nathan Bedford Forrest's attempt to march on Atlanta. Ewell moved his command here from Decatur Ferry on July 26th following an all-night battle near Snively Creek Bridge over the Etowah River that resulted in many deaths for both sides. On November 12th 1865, General Ewell's forces were defeated at Kennesaw Mountain; however, he continued to hold Thomasville as his headquarters until his death on December 14th 1865. In 1898, electricity came to this area with the construction of the Chattahoochee Electric Railroad between Alpharetta and Mableton (later renamed MARTA). The first train arrives in Thomasville on October 5th 1898 . On March 1st 1906 , Mayor Hargrave dedicated First Baptist Church located at 1001 Peachtree Street as America’s first municipally funded church – providing stability during an unstable period for denominational affiliation across much of southern Georgia On May 20th 1916 voters approved incorporation into Fulton County under new name “Thomasville” after one hundred years without change! The Town Council met at 3:00 pm on Saturday May 22nd 1916 to adopt a resolution setting forth its purpose & history including how citizens voted Withholding city services such as streetlights & lighting during World War I due to cost overruns; reopening service upon cessation of hostilities
