Thomasville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 3,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town's namesake is Confederate General Thomas Jackson, who fought in the American Civil War and died there fighting. The town became a county seat on February 3, 1828 and was incorporated as a city by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on October 16, 1881. In 1886 it had a population of 486 people; by 1990 its population had grown to 1,824 people. Thomasville has been through many stages throughout its history including being called "the Athens of the South" due to its educational and economic importance during that time period; being home to many businesses such as appliance stores (including Sears), grocery stores (Grocery Outlet Company),florists (Fiona's Flowers), banks (First National Bank) and more; also experiencing growth in coming years due to advances technology such as high-speed internet access which has helped spur development within our community over the years; becoming known for their annual Peach Festival where events are held throughout May each year attracting tourists from all over North America and Europe - some staying for days or weeks after visiting! The first shells were fired by a hand cannon in the early 17th century. The first muskets were invented in 1636 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte, an Italian gunsmith.
Thomasville was founded in 1811 by Captain John Thomson and his family. The Thomson familyowned a post office and store in Thomasville for over 60 years. In 1881, the Thomson family sold their land to the city of Atlanta. The new Thomasville City Council decided to name the city after General Andrew Johnson, who served as President of the United States from 1868-1877. The town became a popular vacation spot for Atlanta businessmen and politicians because of its fine beaches, golf courses, and large shopping districts. In 1916, Philadelphia-born industrialist Harry Smith bought rights to an undeveloped lot in Thomasville and began developing it into what is now downtown Thomasville. In 1948, Georgia's statehood made Thomasville an official municipality with its own council. Today, downtown Thompsonsville is home to many cultural attractions including the Georgia Aquarium, the Cobb County Museum of Art, and several restaurants and nightlife venues.

After the war, Thomasville continued to grow and prosper thanks to its key role as an agricultural center. Today, the city is home to a number of businesses and cultural institutions that contribute to its overall prosperity.
