The decade following 1830 also saw some significant changes in Suwanee’s political landscape. One such change occurred when John Quincy Adams became president of the United States in 1828. Adams began looking for ways to improve relations with Russia and Japan, which led him to focus on Georgia’s economy as well as its infrastructure development. This led to increased interest in Suwanee within American politics – both inside and outside of Georgia itself –and helped contribute to its growing economic significance throughout the years。 Due largely to these factors, Suwanee experienced continued growth into the 1840s until it reached its peak at around 2,500 people in 1860s). The Suwanee, Georgia area was first populated by the Creek Indians in the 18th century. The area was named for the Swan River, which ran through it. In 1815, a group of white men and women founded the town of Suwanee on the Chattahoochee River, south of what is now Chattanooga. The town grew rapidly, and by 1820 had a population of around 1,500 people. By 1830, however, Suwanee had shrunk to about 100 people. In 1840, General Andrew Jackson was elected president of the United States and soon after began his second term as president with a goal of expanding U.S. territory westward. As part of this effort, he ordered General Nathan Bedford Forrest to march on Suwanee with orders to capture its residents and equipment so that these could be used in frontier construction projects. On July 9, 1841 – just days before Forrest's attack – General Jackson called for an emergency meeting of his cabinet to discuss how best to deal with Forrest's move against Suwanee On July 10th (the day after), Confederate Lt.-Gen JEFFERSON DAVIS attacked Confederate forces under Col TAYLOR at Lookout Hills Cemetery near Chattanooga while they were resting after their victory at First Battle Of Chickamauga Forsaken by his own men and surrounded by Union forces led by Gen James Longstreet (whom he had earlier threatened), Davis surrendered on July 11th just before dawn;[1] this event is generally accepted as marking one end point in the Civil War
