Sugar Hill is a small, yet historical town in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Sugar Hill is known for its sugar plantations and its cotton gin, which still operates today. The first mention of Sugar Hill comes from a deed by General Hugh Johnson to James Burch in 1796. At that time, Robert Epps owned some land in what is now Sugar Hill. In 1813, Captain John Hargrave purchased some more land from Robert Epps and it became known as "Sugar Hill." By 1828, Colonel Elijah Woods had settled there and built a plantation on what is now called "Hill Station". These days, much of the village sits atop old sugar plantations dating back to the 1800s. The first post office in Sugar Hill was established in 1837 and operated until 1865. The first store was built in 1839 by George Headman and remained open until 1935. On December 10th of that year, trustees voted to rename the town 'Sugar' after Ira Sugar Company (the predecessor of Coca-Cola). The name stuck and has been used ever since! Today's sugar plantations date back to the 1800s with many still standing today including: Cane Creek Plantation (also home to Ponce de Leon Park), White Sands Plantation (now located on Lawrence Avenue near Candler Road), Bayou Baptiste Plantation (now located on Old Peachtree Road) & most notably King Cotton Row which remains an iconic landmark today!

Sugar Hill is a small community in Lumpkin County, Georgia, United States. The population was 347 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River near its confluence with the Oconee River. SugarHill was founded by German immigrants in 1825 as a small agricultural settlement named Hanover on what is now Welsh Road. The name changed to Sugarhill in 1828 when an old white man named Jameson renamed his farm after sugarcane growing around him in England. In 1837, David Allen and John Peebles bought land from Jameson and rename it Sugar Hill after their plantation near Savannah, Georgia had produced high-quality cane since 1786. The town became a village on December 5, 1865 when it merged with neighboring Goodyear and Quitman settlements to form the Lumpkin County seat of Atlanta. The town's growth accelerated during Reconstruction following the American Civil War because of its strategic location at the intersection of several main wagon roads linking important centers in southcentral Georgia: Athens, Macon, Valdosta, Savannah and Montgomery before reaching Atlanta. At its peak in 1870, Sugar Hill had a population of 1,500 people; however this number increased rapidly due to migration from southern counties such as Cobb and Fulton into Lumpkin County during Reconstruction. By 1880, sugar beet production accounted for almost all local economic activity; mills produced raw sugar which was refined into molasses or juice before shipment to markets throughout north America. With Chattanooga becoming an important rail center during this time period (due to its location along two major Southern railway lines), sugar manufacturing also grew significantly within Sugar Hill proper; by 1895 mill output totaled 2 million pounds per year compared to only 100 thousand pounds per year five years earlier. During World War II many residents served in military units stationed throughout southeast Georgia including those from Sugar Hill who formed "The Teamsters" Local 8691 (later known as AFSCME). After the war these men began efforts to rebuild their communities post-war through various endeavors such as restoring churches and schools repurposed for social welfare purposes as well as founding numerous civic organizations including one focused on environmental protection called Save Our Streams Incorporated (now Watershed Watch). These groups helped build new infrastructure such as water systems while also preserving traditional cultural practices like tobacco smoking that had been outlawed during wartime prohibitionism. Some Sugarcreek descendants even returned home after serving overseas while others continued moving back and forth between their homes hereabouts and upstate New York until they finally settled permanently near Romeysville in Putnam County about 1980 Though most residents have avoided any active involvement with organized religion outside of occasional attendance at services or Holy Mass offered at local churches over the years - some Sugarcreek descendants have occasionally taken part in church activities such as bake sales or car wash drives - overall membership has largely remained unchanged since early 20th century CE . In recent decades there has been increasing interest among some Sugarcreek descendants both locally & nationally towards researching their ancestors'ataka roots & connection to cotton culture – a process that culminated recently with issuance of a "History Journal" documenting this research effort .
