In the early 1900s, Sugar Hill was a small town in Georgia. It was home to a large sugar refinery and a number of cotton mills. The mills were important because they helped produce the country's largest crop of cotton. The town also became known for its high-capacity kit manufacturing plants. From 1929 through 1931, Gulf Cartage Corporation produced kits for Cadillac automobiles and trucks. In 1933, American Weighing Machine Company began producing kits for the Vickers Estate Car manufacturer (later Vickers Motors) . From 1934 through 1937, American Weighing Machine Company produced kits for Ford cars and trucks . In 1938, National Foundry erected a new plant in Sugar Hill to produce high-capacity kit receivers (HCRs). This new plant was used to produce radios and other electronic equipment . From 1939 until 1941, National Foundry constructed another plant in Sugar Hill to produce air raid sirens (ASRs). These ASRs were used to warn people of an impending attack . In 1942, National Foundry ceased production of ASRs and shifted all HCR production to its newly constructed plant in White Plains , New York . In 1945–1946 National Foundry resumed production of ASRs but this time they made them specifically as fire alarms . from 1947 until 1949 NFA discontinued production of ASRs altogether

However, recent economic downturns have caused much decline and poverty in the town. Sugar Hill is located on U.S. Route 511 south of Athens and east of withdrawals from Mill Creek Reservoir on which it depended for water supply until 1977. The post office was established in 1892 and closed three times before it reopened in 1901 under new management with W H Smith as first Postmaster The community started off as a small cluster of homes near what is now Highway 11th Street and Red Banks Road . In 1902 residents formed the SugarHill Citizens Association to improve their lotteries and other civic functions In 1907 they donated land at what is now Springdale Road/Upton Drive to make way for a high school that would be called "The Citadel" In 1912-13 construction began on Bulldogs Mills Elementary School which became known as "the mother lode" because so much sugarcane came from there (it produced about 20% of all Bulloch County's sugar) In 1913-14 work began on High School but due to lack of funding only 10 students were enrolled initially When World War I broke out members of the community volunteered to help with munitions production within Bulloch County After the war ended employment increased due to increased demand from textile mills in nearby states such as Georgia . By 1928 over 100 people lived in Sugar Hill with around 50 businesses including grocery stores, restaurant, barbershops etc . Despite this growing population some residents still faced significant challenges during hard times like food shortages during World War II when resources decreased

The post office closed in 1963 and the last resident moved out in 1966. In 1986, Sugar Ridge was added as one of six communities within the newly formed city of Atlanta metropolitan area. Today, there are no active businesses or residences in SugarHill and it is considered a ghost town by most people living there today.
