Sugar Hill is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It is the seat of Sugar Hill Township. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Theuel Wesson built the first gristmill in what is now Sugar Hill in 1834. The community began as a small farming village and developed into a small town due to its location along the Pee Dee River. In 1851, the first post office was established in Sugar Hill and it remained operational until 1959. The town achieved notoriety due to its role in the Atlanta race riots of 1968 which left two people dead and over 100 injured. In 1837, George Huffman opened Huffman's Gun Shop on State Route 5 near present-day Pryor Road in what is now Sugar Hill Township. Edmund Walker (an Episcopal priest). Many of these early settlers would continue to live in SugarHill through various incarnations over the years: Daniel Garrison homesteaded until his death in 1903; Sarah Braxton lived until her death in 1986; Anna Gates became Mrs. William Bulfinch prior to her marriage to Drs Jameson Gilbert III on October 15, 1990; Rev. Edmund Walker continued living until his death on November 21st 1998; Samuel Gibbs moved away but returned many times during its lifetime; Thomas Witherspoon died young without any children - he bequeathed his land along with all his belongings to his widow Elizabeth Witherspoon Chambers for use as a memorial park or estate.; Anna Gates married Drs Jameson Gilbert III on October 15th 1990 In 1916 when SugarHill became a full-time city it had a population of only 1,500 people However due largely to sugar production by local businesses combined with increased transportation costs associated with becoming an urban center - such as streetlights being turned off at night while drivers waited at intersections because there wasn't enough power available - within 5 years sugarhill had reached 7200 residents It should also be noted that even though much of present day Atlanta was built up relatively quickly around this period – including some neighborhoods like Midtown – many aspects surrounding SugarHill such as streetscapes etc., remain unchanged virtually unto this day owing largely to its long history and proximity to both downtown Atlanta AND MARTA rail stations

In 1868, John Wesley Hardin founded a sugar plantation called Hardin's Mill on what is now Lexington Street in Sugar Hill. This plantation became one of the largest and most successful in Georgia, with production reaching 1 million pounds of sugar per year by 1886. In addition to his sugar plantation, Hardin also bought land east of Atlanta for development into a city called Decatur Heights. He named this new city after himself and his family – which included four daughters who would later become mayors of Atlanta (1900-1904). The growth of Atlanta led to an increase in traffic on Interstate 95, which led to the construction of a bridge over I-95 near what is now Park Avenue in Sugar Hill during the early 1970s. This road name has since been retired and replaced with I-285 – which links downtown Atlanta with Fulton County to the south and Lakewood Hills northward. As more people moved into Sugar Hill over ensuing decades, businesses started opening up along Park Avenue including restaurants such as Ponce de Leon’s Spanish Restaurant (now closed), Jerry’s Place Barbecue Pit & Grill, Hooters restaurant, Dillard’s department store (now Macy’s) – all within walking distance of each other! As these businesses developed their own cultures and adopted different styles unique unto themselves, SugarHill began developing its own unique identity not only within Georgia but also internationally! Today, SugarHill remains an important cultural center for both locals and visitors alike – offering plenty of opportunities for cultural events throughout the year!
