In 1938, they moved their manufacturing facility from Hazelnut Ridge Township to Brownstown Township on the Chattahoochee River north of Atlanta. American Chocolate Corporation became one of the world's largest chocolate producers until it was bought out by Nestle SA in 1987.
In 1810, the area that is now Sugar Hill was part of what was known as the Creek Nation. The Creek Nation included much of what is now Georgia and Alabama. In 1837, the United States acquired this territory from the Creek Nation. This acquisition made sugar plantations available in this area for American settlers. The first sugar plantation in Sugar Hill was founded by John Brown in 1847.
