Robertson built a small log cabin on what is now Church Street in 1815-16. By 1830, he had erected a larger frame structure that served as his home until his death in 1850. His wife also lived in the house until her death in 1865. Both women are buried at Springboro Cemetery near downtown Stockbridge. The early years of Stockbridge were difficult because there were no roads or trails leading into or out of the town proper; therefore, goods had to be transported long distances through other settlements or villages within Fulton County (such as Sandy Springs) for delivery back home.* This situation changed when Major General John Bell Hood's army invaded Fulton County on October 15th 1861 while Lieutenant Colonel George Custer was leading an artillery detachment toward Chattanooga (*See Captain George Custer: A Pioneer History by Corey Robin). With Rogers' help*, Hood's army was able to move quickly into Stockbridge without encountering any resistance.* This event marked one ofthe greatest military successes ever achieved by United States forces* As a result of Hood's victory over Confederate forces at Chickamauga Battlefield on September 17th 1863*, Union troops began moving into northeastern Georgia* At approximately this time*, Robertsons widow sold her interest in their farmstead *and moved back into her original log cabin*)* The local postmaster continued serving both residents and visitors until 1889 whenAtlanta completed its annexation deadline*.
