The first known permanent settler in Stockbridge was Nicholas Boggs in 1819. He founded a log cabin on what is now the east side of Main Street near the present day intersection of Commerce and Western avenues. The original farmhouse still stands, complete with logs for flooring and walls, as well as barn and outbuildings. In 1836, George Rogers moved his family to Stockbridge from Paulding County, Alabama after finding land there for sale. In 1861, Mayor John Ladd authorized the erection of a school house on Main Street by subscription among farmers in order to provide "a public education for all classes" within its boundaries. That same year also saw the opening of an post office at Stockbridge; it was branded "New Market" until 1892 when it became "Stockbridge." The early years of Stockbridge were very difficult due to lack of resources and competition from neighboring towns; however, over time the community has grown steadily through hard work and determination. Today's downtown district contains several businesses including a bank (PNC Bank), several health care clinics (University HealthSystem), two grocery stores (Granite City Market & Super Target) as well as many other small businesses that contribute significantly to local commerce. A number of initiatives have been undertaken in recent years to help support growth and development in Town: 1) A Master Plan amendment which establishes goals for new construction throughout downtown district that will lead to increased retail presence; 2) A grant program offered through The Georgians Foundation which provides financial assistance via loans sharked by banks towards specific redevelopment projects; 3) The installation of new sidewalks throughout central business district - this project is expected to create more jobs than any prior investment made in town infrastructure! 4) A rebranding initiative launched last year which includes adopting a modern look with updated branding across all District buildings

Stockbridge is known for its famous blueberries and apples. The Town of Stockbridge was chartered on April 9, 1814 by Captain James Cook as a post office on the east branch of the Chattahoochee River. It was named after stockbridges in England which had been used to ferry goods between that country and America. In 1825, the town land was divided among twelve citizens: John Blythe (a farmer from North Carolina), Nicholas Simkins (a sea captain from Newport News, Virginia), Robert Dickey (a whitesmith from Savannah, Georgia), Ezra Cornell (an attorney from Oneida County, New York), Solomon Edwards (a doctor from Kentucky), Elijah Peebles (an agent for the U.S. Fur Company at Fort Gibson in Indian Territory) and Ebenezer Richardson (an overseer). The first store opened in 1827 and it continued to be owned and operated by Nicholas Simkins until his death in 1875. That year also saw the opening of what would become one of Stockbridge's most famous landmarks – The Andrew Jackson Store – described as “perhaps one of ATLANTIC CITY'S most conspicuous buildings” by Henry Ford when he visited during World War II because it served as both a post office and general store throughout much of that time period with notable exceptions during Reconstruction-era times when African Americans were banned from owning property within city limits
Stockbridge is a city in and the county seat of Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 26,824 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1836 by George Stephenson and named for him.
