The town was founded by men who were driving out Indians and others during the American Revolution. The current site of Statesboro was chosen for its strategic location on a bend in the Stono River, making it easy to defend against attack from Indian allies or other enemies. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Holly Springs to Statesboro after routing forces loyal to Vice President John Quincy Adams at Battle of Fallujah Creek. Statesborough replaced Troupville as the county seat in 1826 and remained so until 1938 when Athens became the new county seat. In 1792 three pioneers named James Armistead, Thomas Brown, and Daniel Jones arrived in what is now Cobb County with their families and began farming land that would become statesboro today. They built log homes on what are now Uptown streets - what would become known as "Old State" Street being one such street - and named their new community after George Washington's home state, Virginia (then North Carolina).

Statesboro, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 10,886 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Athens is the county seat and largest city of Fulton County. Statesboro was founded by James Fenton in 1785 as a small trading post on the Chattahoochee River. In 1814 it became a town after being chosen as one of five sites for what would become Atlanta. By 1860, when Atlanta was laid out as a city, Statesboro had become an important commercial and transportation center on the southern border of what would become the black Belt region of Atlanta. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell made his headquarters at Statesboro before retreating to Chattanooga with his army. A Union cavalry unit under Lieutenant Colonel John Pemberton reached Statesboro just before nightfall and found Ewell's troops there waiting for them; they were forced to retreat back into Chattanooga without taking any prisoners or supplies. The town's importance diminished after the war but it continued to exist until 1870 when it merged with neighboring Decatur to form Decatur-Statesborough-Decatur Township (later renamed Fulton County). The original townsite was located east of today's intersection of Upson Boulevard and Interstate 285/285E; today's State Street bridge crossing Upson Boulevard marks its location south of that intersection. During Reconstruction in America following Reconstruction Era America sharecropper plantations like Fenton’s were gradually phased out by white landowners who wanted more land for themselves instead African Americans labor which led to new tensions over land ownership across racial lines especially given that whites owned most businesses in downtown areas while African Americans worked scattered around those same buildings cleaning up streets and doing other menial jobs outside those businesses during this time period known as "the Jim Crow era". Eventually all black citizens were prohibited from owning property north of McNair Avenue while whites could only own property south thereof which limited development opportunities much like many other pre-war zoning restrictions still extant today throughout much rural Fulton County including Statesboro particularly since statehood gave black citizens no say whatsoever regarding their local government including things such as education or economic opportunity unlike many northern counties wherezoners enjoyed some degree similar educational opportunities granted upon annexation via state legislation even though these same ordinances specifically exempted blacks from certain zoning regulations limiting business opportunity within their newly annexed territory Heyward v Randolph et al 471 US 1125 (1985). This situation persisted until 1959 when voters passed an amendment repealing all prohibitions against Negroes owning property northof McNair avenue although this did not take effect immediately due to lack funds however gradual efforts have been ongoing ever since by various organizations both public and private over time culminating in current day District 2 City Council resolution supporting Full Employment for All Citizens Resolution - #5489
Statesboro was founded by Captain James Cook in 1763. The town was named after General Thomas Statesborough, who commanded the British army in the Georgia Campaign of 1762-1763. In 1802, Statesboro became a county seat and it has been an incorporated city since 1898.
