Statesboro is a town in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cherokee County. The first white person to settle in what is now Statesboro was Capt. John Capps who built his home on what is now Cotton Hill Road in 1796. A post office called Statesboro was established in 1802, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1857. In 1814, the town of Statesboro became an incorporated village when two settlements were combined into one by Act of Congress. The original courthouse burned down in 1821 and replaced by a new one, which still stands today on Courthouse Square. The village prospered for several years until a banking crisis led to its demise around 1830. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Jubal Early invaded Georgia from Tennessee and seized much of southeastern Georgia including Statesborough; however he never reached Statesborough as it had been evacuated before he could arrive. In 1865, after the war ended and Reconstruction began, Union troops burned down almost all of the remaining brick buildings associated with early Village days such as Banksy Hall (now known as Old State House), Post Office Square (now Courthouse Square), Masonic Lodge #2 (now First Baptist Church), Presbyterian Chapel (now Ebenezer Baptist Church) and many more buildings that have since been demolished or are no longer visible due to their age or condition). No one knows for sure how many churches were destroyed but it seems to be quite high given that most other structures from this time period remain standing albeit with some damage or neglect throughout their history.. Eventually most of these structures were replaced by modern housing developments such as Courthouse Square/Old State House development which fronts on present day Cotton Hill Road though there may still be remnants of old Village homes scattered throughout what once was Townsville Grove/Ebenezer Baptist Church complex located off Highway 21 just north of downtown Streetsboro which borders Highway 129 & US-23 east of Walmart

Statesboro was a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,425 at the 2000 census. It is now part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was founded by Scotch settlers in 1784 and named for Sir George Washington's plantation on nearby Georgians Bayou. In 1819, the town became a county seat of Fulton County after being transferred from Carrollton. In 1835, Statesboro absorbed neighboring communities of Allatoona to the east and north (the latter becoming North Fulton) and regained its original name as "Statesborough". The courthouse burned down in 1851 and again in 1861; both fires were extinguished with no loss to property or life. The only building still standing from these two fires is the State House annexe which housed the court system until it moved to Demopolis in 1987. The first post office at Statesboro opened on October 15, 1814. A railroad depot was built here in 1836 by the Cherokee Railroad Company; it served as a stop on the route between Milledgeville andDecatur until 1840 when it became part of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad mainline. Governor James Kenedy announced plans for what would become known as Reconstruction south of Atlanta on December 3, 1865; he appointed General Nathan Bedford Forrest head of Confederate forces occupying northeast Georgia as commander-in-chief of all military operations within that region pending federal approval for an American Union victory over Confederate forces under Robert E Lee. President Andrew Johnson approved this plan on December 10th and Forrest withdrew his army from northeastern Georgia with orders to return to Chattanooga effective January 1st, 1865 - thus ending Reconstruction south ofAtlanta proper!
