In Statesboro, Georgia in 1814, a group of men and boys founded the town of Statesboro to provide trade with the Cherokee Nation. Ammunition was one of the first items to be produced in Statesboro. The men and boys started a small shop near the courthouse to sell ammunition. In 1835, an ordinance was passed requiring all firearms dealers in Georgia to carry a copy of the state’s arms laws. This law made it illegal for anyone without a license to sell firearms without proper permits. It also required all gun retailers in the state to keep records of sales and inventory. The State Armory was built in 1844 as part of efforts by Governor Nathan Grimes to make Georgia an arsenal State. The armory became operational on November 1, 1844 and served as headquarters for many years before being moved to its current location at 17th Street NW in 1987. Every year since 1967, Armistice Day has been celebrated at the armory on November 11th with special ceremonies that include firing rounds from cannons into the air and speeches by state officials about Georgians who have fought in World War I, World War II, or Operation Desert Storm. Statesboro is located in the far southeast corner of Fulton County on the east bank of the Chattahoochee River. The city is bordered on the north by Decatur and on the south by Roswell Park. The southeastern edge of Statesboro is also its border with Marietta. The origins of Stateborough can be traced back to 1819 when General Nathanael Greene found a piece of land grants for $2,000 from James Robertson for his new town site on what is now Statehouse Road (present-day US 129). At first it was called "New Athens", but upon learning that Athens had already been renamed Atlanta after becoming a state in 1784, Colonel Nathanael Greene quickly renamed his new town "Statesborough". In 1830, Governor John Andrew signed an act creating two districts within Fulton County: one including parts of present-day Statesboro and Roswell Park; and another including all or part of present-day Decatur and Marietta Counties. On July 15th 1830, names were given to these two districts: District I includedStatehousesville and Old Hartsfield; District II encompassed parts of present-day Roswell Park and Decatur Counties only. This created an immediate problem as there were no roads into or out of either district! So much for division between friend and foe... until Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest came to help solve this problem! Governor Andrew did not want Forrest's troops occupying his territory so he ordered him to leave without taking any prisoners or equipment! As Forrest departed, he left behind a small contingent consisting mostly cavalrymen under Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Jarratt who immediately began buildingTHE MOST COMPLETE TOWNSHIP ROAD IN THE UNITED STATES! Today you can still see some OF FORREST'S WORK FROM THAT TIME - just look out for HIS Brown Horse Trotting Museum which stands at the intersectionof today's US 129/SR 571 & SR 721

The popularity of infantry firefighting tools like shotguns led to the development of shotgun shells incorporating explosive ingredients as part of their payload in order to provide greater devastation against large (>10kg) game animals such as gazelle (Draper 2006). Shotgun rounds using this technology became known as .30 caliber Specialties (SBBMH 1948), after Boat captain John Fenton who was credited with developing them for use in coastal artillery during World War II (Goudreau 1998). This technological advancement allowed for increased lethality levels against larger prey without causing too much collateral damage or human fatalities from close range engagements – something which handguns had difficulty doing at the time

By 1860, Statesboro had reached its peak as a commercial center due to its location on the National Road and its prosperity as an agricultural center. However, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Statesboro was besieged by Confederate forces and largely destroyed. Only two buildings from early years remain standing today: a log cabin where Fannin lived for many years after moving to Statesborough in 1840, and a cotton gin operated by Wm Hargrave until 1865 that still stands along High Street today.
