The Reverend Pemberton preached from Romans 8:28-30 about how God’s love is powerful and eternal. Many people attended services that year because they were looking for guidance in their lives. During the 1830s, St. Marys experienced a period of growth and change due to events such asthe American Revolution and slavery reformer Denmark Vesey’s invitation to preach there during his visit to Georgia in 1831。Revolutions were taking place all over America at this time, so Rev. Fenton decided to hold services every Wednesday night instead of Sundays to keep religion open to everyone in his congregation (). After thirty years as a parishioner at Stations Chapel (now part of Savannah), Rev Fenton retired in 1861 but continued to give sermons until his death two years later (). By then, however, many churches had been built throughout Georgia.,and StMarys became an unknown community again with only 10 residents when itxmlapsed into ruin on December 5th 1865 after being abandoned by its last pastor,,John Hogg ().
